Melinda Gates, the wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, has pledged to spend up to $1 billion over the next 10 years to promote gender equality.

In an op-ed for Time magazine published on Wednesday, Gates, who has routinely pushed population control in third-world countries, announced her commitment to seeing more women in positions of power throughout the United States.

“For most of our history, women’s absence from positions of power and influence wasn’t newsworthy; it was normal. The fact we’re now talking about these inequities is itself a sign of progress,” writes Gates.

While Gates appreciates the progress that women have made in recent years, citing the Women’s March and #MeToo movements as evidence, she ultimately fears that the moment will soon fizzle out.

“Here’s what keeps me up at night: I imagine waking up one morning to find that the country has moved on,” she says. “That the media has stopped reporting on systemic inequalities. That diversity remains something companies talk about instead of prioritizing. That all of this energy and attention has amounted to a temporary swell instead of a sea change.”

“There is too much at stake to allow that to happen,” she laments. “Too many people — women and men — have worked too hard to get us this far. And there are too many possible solutions we haven’t tried yet. That’s why, over the next ten years, I am committing $1 billion to expanding women’s power and influence in the United States.”

The goal of this funding, according to Gates, is to see more women in positions of power, enabling them to shape the country’s future.

“I want to see more women in the position to make decisions, control resources, and shape policies and perspectives,” she writes. “I believe that women’s potential is worth investing in — and the people and organizations working to improve women’s lives are, too.”

“$1 billion is a lot of money, but I also recognize that it’s only a small fraction of what’s necessary,” she continues. “That’s why I hope the financial commitment I’m making today is seen as both a vote of confidence in the experts and advocates who are already working on these issues — and an invitation for others to join the cause and make commitments of their own. Equality can’t wait, and no one in a position to act should either.”

As noted previously, the Gates family, by way of their foundation, have been pushing population control measures in third-world countries over the past decade, routinely giving money to abortion providers like International Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International. Speaking with David Letterman back in June, Melinda Gates said that the family’s foundation functions in the same way as the Rockefeller Foundation or the Carnegie Foundation — as a non-profit that experiments in social engineering to provide a potential model for government. In the same interview, she even boasted how population control measures create divisions between husbands and wives within marriage.

“Here’s how we know [change] is possible; in every country in the world where you’re given access to modern contraceptives, it only takes one generation for them to be fully uptake, and for them to see the birthrate decline,” she said. “And once they have consistent access, women will use it, and what they’ll also do is they’ll do it covertly without their husband knowing it.”
