“Married with Children” star Christina Applegate sparked an online reaction after the actress said she doesn’t “enjoy living” anymore amid her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis (MS).

During the 52-year-old actress’ “MeSsy” podcast earlier this month, Applegate talked about living with MS after being diagnosed in 2021,  getting honest with how she’s lived in “real depression” and felt “trapped in this darkness.”

“This is being really honest…” Applegate told her listeners. “I don’t enjoy living. I don’t enjoy it. I don’t enjoy things anymore.”

Shortly after reports of the comments surfaced, people took to social media to express their concern, TooFab reported.

She later clarified the comments on a recent podcast and said that she was “talking about some dark stuff that I was thinking and feeling … I feel like when we hold things in, we give them power.”

“I also think that there’s so much shame a lot of people feel when they’re going through mental health issues … and when people hold those in, because they’re so afraid to say how they truly feel, we give it immense power,” Applegate told her listeners.

“Not only holding things in gives it power but it also can cause disease in your body — cancer, all sorts of things,” she added. “Loneliness. All of that, by holding it in because society has told us we’re supposed to be just f***ing fine. And I am not into that. I think it is incredibly healing and important to be able to express the thoughts, whether that makes someone uncomfortable or not.”

“By making such a big deal about it, you’re making other people think, ‘Oh, s***, I can’t talk about this.’ And that is not OK with me,” the “Dead to Me” star continued. “I think it’s important to be able to say these things. And, no, I’m not sitting here on suicide watch, OK? I am not. Nor have I ever been.”

She admitted that “dark thoughts” come into a person’s head sometimes when they are dealing with something that has taken a “huge part of you away.”

“I dare anyone to be diagnosed with MS or any kind of chronic illness that has taken who you were prior to that moment and go, ‘This is great.’ You know?” Applegate said.

“No, you have moments of feeling, ‘This is tiring and I don’t want to do this.’ But you do it, and by having friends like you and my beautiful friends that I have saying this s*** loud, it releases the pressure in the balloon, man,” she added.

The actress has been very open about living with what she called the “invisible disease,” which she said can be “very lonely” because it’s “hard to explain to people” what she’s going through.

“I’m never going to wake up and go, ‘This is awesome,'” Applegate said. “I’m just going to tell you that. Like, it’s not going to happen. I wake up and I’m reminded of it every day … But I might get to a place where I function a little bit better.”

Applegate is married to Martyn LeNoble, and the two have a daughter, the “Today” show noted.
