Lindsay Clancy Trial Rocked As Jurors Realize They’re Being Watched

A 56-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday after she was caught filming jurors serving on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

Jurors reportedly noticed that Dawn Light was taking photos or filming them when they were dismissed for the day on Tuesday, following day four of deliberations. Light, who is apparently of supporter of Clancy’s, was taken into custody around 3:40 p.m.

Prosecutor Nicole Pearson said Light was inside her car filming jurors, according to Fox News. “She is filming jurors that are coming out of the building,” Pearson said. Video recovered by police from her phone’s deleted folder showed Clancy jurors leaving the building.

Light faces one charge of intimidation of a witness, jurors, or person furnishing information in connection with criminal proceedings. According to her attorney, Light was trying to film Clancy and the matter was “a complete misunderstanding.”

According to Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, Light could face up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine since the Clancy case involves a potential life sentence.

Light had pleaded not guilty.

Judge William Sullivan addressed the situation on Wednesday morning. “I just want to remind everybody here and elsewhere that there’s been an order that’s been issued in regards to the conducting of this case, as well as statutes in this Commonwealth which relate to jurors, witnesses, attorneys and others,” he said.

Hundreds of women have been showing up outside the courthouse for weeks, showing their apparent support for Clancy, a mother who fatally strangled all three of her young children. Her supporters typically wear pink and hold signs of support, some reading, “She Needed Help” or “Peace for Lindsay.”

On August 20, some 400 people, mostly women, showed up wearing pink shirts to show their support for Clancy. The women have dubbed themselves “Lindsay’s Army.”

The case has become a lightning rod online, with influencers and celebrities offering support for Clancy due to the defense’s injection of alleged postpartum psychosis to explain the crime and argue that Clancy is not criminally liable for her actions. Others online have peddled unsupported conspiracy theories about Clancy being framed by her ex-husband Patrick, who they say murdered the kids and then framed his wife.

Clancy does not dispute that she strangled 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan with exercise bands inside the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, as her defense team is arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

The 36-year-old is facing life in prison without parole. Jurors are set to begin day five of deliberations Wednesday morning, following a roadblock on Tuesday. Jurors sent a note to the judge that read, “After many hours of deliberation, we are unable to come to a unanimous decision.” Judge William Sullivan sent the jurors back and told them to continue deliberations.

It’s unclear how the jury is split, but two female jurors reportedly smiled at one another as Judge Sullivan was looking over the note. One of the jurors, an older female who has worn pink on two days of deliberations, reportedly “shook her head in apparent frustration after he gave the instruction,” LA Magazine reporter Lauren Conlin wrote. “From my observation, she appeared unconvinced that further deliberations would be productive. The jury has now returned to the deliberation room to continue discussions.”

The state has argued that Clancy methodically planned the killings and was criminally responsible for her actions, rejecting the defense’s claim that she was in a psychotic state that left her unable to understand the wrongfulness of what she was doing. The state said in closing arguments that Clancy gave up on trying to get better and decided to kill herself and also decided she was going to take her children with her.

Prosecutors said Clancy made a number of decisions leading up to the murders that show they were planned, such as sending her then-husband Patrick out for two errands and looking up the time it would take for him to retrieve a takeout order.
