Tributes to KISS band member Ace Frehley have been pouring in since his death last week as fans grapple with the loss. Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 shared his memories during an episode of the Sirius XM show “Trunk Nation” titled “Tribute to Ace Frehley.”

“Just like everybody, just like millions of people around the world, I first discovered KISS in ’77 when I was seven years old. So he has been in all of our lives for our whole life,” the guitarist, whose legal name is John Lowery, said.

“And I became very close with Ace. I would talk to him just all the time on the phone. We hung out, we went to the movies, went to pawn shops, we did everything. And it was such a magical time and he had just such a kind heart and he was a kind soul. He really was. He was just such a good person and caring person,” he added.

Lowery said that Frehley was excited about being one of the Kennedy Center honorees in December.

“He was so happy, he was so excited about the Kennedy Center Honors. He was just so over the moon about this. And what he told me is he was so excited that the president said his name and said it correctly. At this point of his life, he was over the moon. He was so happy. And that’s, I think, something really, really important.”

President Donald Trump announced this year’s Kennedy Center honorees in August during a press conference while confirming that he helped turn the Center around.

When asked if he participated in the selection process, Trump said he was “about 98% involved” and that “they all came through me.”

The president flat-out said he turned down certain suggestions for being too “woke.”

“I turned down plenty, they were too woke. … I had a couple of wokesters. No, we have great people. This is very different than it used to be,” Trump added.

At the time, Frehley called the honor, “a dream come true that I never thought would materialize.”
