King Charles III celebrated the life and reign of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II on Friday on the first anniversary of the monarch’s death at the age of 96 in 2022, sharing his gratitude for all the “love and support” over the last year.

In a recorded message, Charles talked about the late queen’s “devoted service” to everyone during her historic 70-year reign, which was celebrated with a Diamond Jubilee months before her passing on September 8.

“In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service, and all she meant to so many of us,” Charles said in an audio message and signed note on Balmoral Castle stationery.

“I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all,” his message added.

The Queen’s funeral was held on September 19, 2022, at Westminster Abbey following a royal funeral procession of her flower-draped coffin from Balmoral to Westminster Hall where millions of mourners turned out to say goodbye.

King Charles immediately ascended the throne following his mother’s death, and the 74-year-old monarch’s official coronation took place in May at Westminster Abbey.

The King’s son Prince Harry also reportedly took time out on Friday to remember his late grandmother during his trip to the United Kingdom. The Duke of Sussex reportedly visited the Queen’s burial site at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, The Telegraph reported.

People magazine said it confirmed through a royal source that some members of the royal family visited the chapel.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton also celebrated the monarch’s life on the anniversary of her death. The Prince and Princess of Wales posted a series of photos on social media of the late queen and wrote, “Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you. W & C.”

In a second post, the royal pair shared a photo on Instagram showing them at the chapel taking time out to remember her.

“A moment of reflection at St. Davids Cathedral [honoring] Her Late Majesty and all that she did for communities like this around the UK, the Commonwealth and the world,” the message read.
