Kevin Costner talked about the final episodes of his hit series “Yellowstone” and made it clear that he still hopes he and Paramount can work it out so he can appear in them.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming movie “Horizon: An American Saga,” the subject of the Taylor Sheridan series came up and the fate of his character John Dutton.

“I’d like to be able to do it [Yellowstone] but we haven’t been able to,” Costner said of returning to the series. “…I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five.”

“So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on,” he added. “Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

Costner also talked about the end of the series, admitting he’s thought about how the story of his character wraps up, adding that Dutton “needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how it might be.”

“But that’s Taylor’s thing,” he added. “I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.”

Part two of the fifth and final season of the Paramount+ series is expected to finally come out in November, after the fifth season was originally supposed to return in 2023.

Last year, rumors surfaced that Costner was leaving the show at the height of its popularity. He recently opened up about what caused his departure from the popular series over a scheduling conflict.

“Somewhere along the line they wanted to change things,” Costner said of the “Yellowstone” filming process. “They wanted to do 5A and 5B … affected ‘Horizon.’ I was going to do my movie ‘Horizon’ and leave that show, do my movie, then do B. A show I was only doing once a year I was now doing twice.”

Costner said Paramount “walked away” from negotiations. “We did negotiate. There were issues about creative. I tried to break the log jam. They walked away.”

Last year, production was halted in the second half of the season due to Costner’s scheduling conflicts — followed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes, as previously reported.

“Horizon: An American Saga” will hit theaters in two parts, with Chapter One coming out June 28, followed by Chapter Two on August 16.
