On Sunday evening, former Congresswoman Katie Hill, who represented California’s 25th district before she resigned over accusations that she had sexual relations with a staffer, decided to weigh in on the special election last week held for her former seat, which was won by GOP candidate Mike Garcia over Democratic state assemblywoman Christy Smith, commenting, “It really hurt to have my old seat flip back to Republican … In fact, it was pretty f***ing devastating.”
Hill tweeted: “So yeah it really hurt to have my old seat flip back to Republican-for a ton of people & also for me. In fact, it was pretty fucking devastating. I went offline & cried for a few days but, as always, getting ready to stand back up & keep fighting. Hope you are too. Onward.”

Then Hill played the victim card: “Let’s be clear. My ex gave nonconsenual nude pics of me to the ppl who wanted this seat- people who were backing Garcia when he was my opponent. They gave those pics to the press. I resigned. I take full responsibility for my mistakes, but this Republican win is no coincidence.”

Hill completed her Twitter thread by reminding people, “Know that I’m here, ready to work,” writing, “To @christyforca25, @housedemocrats, #CA25, my former staff & everyone who worked so hard to flip this seat, I’m so sorry. I know I let you down, and I reflect on my role in it all everyday. Know that I’m here, ready to work. Let’s take this seat back in Nov – #CA25 deserves it.”

Last October, as The Daily Wire reported, the House Ethics Committee announced it was launching an ethics investigation into allegations that Hill had an affair with a congressional staffer in violation of House Rules.
Hill said in her resignation statement:
This is what needs to happen so that the good people who supported me will no longer be subjected to the pain inflicted by my abusive husband and the brutality of hateful political operatives who seem to happily provide a platform to a monster who is driving a smear campaign built around cyber exploitation. Having private photos of personal moments weaponized against me has been an appalling invasion of my privacy. It’s also illegal, and we are currently pursuing all of our available legal options.
After Hill announced her resignation, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a a brief statement: “Congresswoman Katie Hill came to Congress with a powerful commitment to her community and a bright vision for the future, and has made a great contribution as a leader of the Freshman Class. She has acknowledged errors in judgment that made her continued service as a Member untenable. We must ensure a climate of integrity and dignity in the Congress, and in all workplaces.”
