Karoline Leavitt On Coming Tariffs: ‘One Of The Most Important Days In Modern American History’

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that President Donald Trump’s tariff plan, which is expected to be rolled out on Wednesday, will mark “one of the most important days in modern American history.”

The Trump administration is expected to implement its reciprocal tariff plan on Wednesday, dubbed “Liberation Day” by the White House. Leavitt said the plan is aimed at rectifying the “fundamentally unfair” trade that the United States has with many other countries.

“The president’s historic action tomorrow will improve American competitiveness in every area of industry, reduce our massive trade deficits, and ultimately protect our economic and national security,” Leavitt said. “President Trump’s economic vision is rooted in common sense. America will offer companies the lowest taxes, energy costs, [and] regulations if they make their products right here in the United States and hire American workers for the job.”

“It’s simple: if you make your product in America, you will pay no tariffs,” she said.

The press secretary later admitted that Americans, specifically American seniors, have “legitimate concerns” over the impact the implementation of the tariffs might have on the economy. Leavitt said that the economic pain is to create a better basis for the future of the country.

“Tomorrow’s announcement is to protect future generations of the senior citizens you mentioned, it’s for their kids and their grandkids, to ensure that there are jobs here in the United States of America for their children to live the American dream just like they presumably did,” the press secretary said.

Asked about what the administration’s plan would be if reciprocal tariffs “don’t” work, Leavitt said the administration was sure of the plan.

“They’re not going to be wrong. It is going to work,” Leavitt said when asked if the president’s advisors are wrong on tariffs. “The president has a brilliant team of advisors who have been studying these issues for decades, and we are focused on restoring the golden age of America and making America a manufacturing superpower.”
