Model Kate Moss is expected to testify on Wednesday for actor Johnny Depp, who is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation concerning domestic violence allegations he claims significantly hurt his Hollywood career.
Moss reportedly dated Depp from 1994 to 1997. She was not slated to testify in the case until after Heard mentioned Moss while testifying about an alleged incident in 2015.
“The British fashion icon, 48, will testify via video link on Wednesday in the Fairfax, Virginia, courtroom, sources with knowledge said,” the New York Post reported Monday.
Depp’s team seems to clearly want Moss to be able to testify. As noted by the Post report, the actor’s legal team was spotted “fist-pumping” when Heard brought up Moss on the stand earlier this month.
“I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs, and I swung at him,” Heard said while testifying, telling the jury why she hit Depp during the alleged 2015 incident.
“Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth,” a source told the Post following Heard’s testimony.
Fox News reported that Moss and Depp’s relationship had a “rocky start.”
“The pair’s romance got off to a rocky start with Depp getting arrested for trashing the Mark Hotel during a fight with Moss in 1994,” the report said, adding, “The charges were dropped, but the actor had to pay $10,000 in damages. The two never spoke publicly about the incident.”
The model told Vanity Fair in 2012 “that after their split she missed him and there were ‘years and years of crying,'” Fox noted.
The pair are reportedly still “good friends.”
Other women who’ve had relationships with Depp have defended the actor, including French singer Vanessa Paradis, the mother of Depp’s two children and former partner of 14 years.
“Through all of these years I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous and non-violent person,” the singer said, as reported by The Guardian.
“On movie sets the actors, directors and entire crew adore him because he is so humble and respectful to everyone as well as being one of the best actors we’ve seen,” Paradis added. “I have seen that these outrageous statements have been really distressing and also caused damage to his career because unfortunately people have gone on believing these false facts.”
Actress Winona Ryder, an ex-girlfriend of Depp, also released a statement following accusations by Heard, emphasizing that Depp was never violent with her and that she, essentially, finds the allegations to be unbelievable.
“I am aware of the violence allegations that have been made publicly for the last few years by Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard. The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations,” Ryder said in a statement reported by The Guardian in 2020.
“He was never, never violent towards me,” she continued. “He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen. I truly and honestly only know him as a really good man – an incredibly loving, extremely caring guy who was so very protective of me and the people that he loves, and I felt so very, very safe with him.”
“I do not want to call anyone a liar but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true. I find it extremely upsetting knowing him as I do,” the “Beetlejuice” actress added.
