Jennifer Lopez hit the iHeart Radio Music Awards Show wearing a fur coat with the message “equality” across the bottom after drag queens took the stage to show off some of her more famous looks.
The 52-year-old singer was honored Tuesday with the Icon Award at the annual awards show as she appeared on stage wearing a long-train coat with the message “equality” in black across the bottom of it, and a black cutout top and pants look underneath, reported the New York Post in a piece published Wednesday.
The “Hustlers” star’s appearance came about after drag queens strutted their stuff on the stage led by actor Billy Porter, who told the audience that “the word for tonight is icon,” as he sported a head-to-toe hot pink outfit and shouted messages like “mesmerizing,” “show-stopping,” and “legendary” for the actress.
Porter was followed by one drag queen wearing what looked similar to the superstar’s iconic sheer green jungle Versace dress she wore to the Grammys in 2000. The original had a deep-plunging neckline and inspired the creation of Google images, reported Business Insider previously.
“I really didn’t think about it,” Lopez told Vogue prior. “I didn’t think it was all that risque, to be honest. I was more excited that it was the Grammys. I wasn’t even thinking about the dress that much. I was just glad I had something to wear.”
The Versace look was followed by another person wearing the superstar singer’s Met Gala dress for the 2018 theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination,” reported Bustle prior. The black floor-length number consisted of a sequined blue and red cross on the front of the dress with a thigh-high leg slit.
Some of the looks during the drag show featured more famed looks by Jlo from her biggest music videos like “Waiting for Tonight.” There was also one scantily-clad performer wearing a black bikini with matching briefs and sheer black tights. Another drag queen hit the stage in a similar to look to Lopez’s pole-dancing outfit from the “Hustlers” movie.
Later, when the superstar singer accepted her award, she talked about winning trophies, and said the reason she does it is for the fans.
“I wish I could tell you that awards were the most important thing to me, but that’s not true,” Lopez explained. “But it isn’t why I do this. It’s not what matters the most to me. I really do it for you guys.”
“So, I want to say thank you to every one of you for believing in me when other people didn’t, even when I didn’t,” she added. “Thank you for teaching me who I really am.”
“Icon,” Lopez continued. “I can overcome negativity and so can you every single moment.”
