Actor Johnny Depp testified on Wednesday that his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, left “human fecal matter” in their bed after an argument in April 2016.
Depp is suing Heard for more than $50 million for defamation he claims hurt his Hollywood career.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star recalled telling Heard that he wanted a divorce and decided to get his belongings from their place while she was at a music festival in California’s Coachella Valley. He was informed by security guard Sean Bett that it wasn’t a good time and shown a photo of the incident.
Heard allegedly told Depp that it was their dogs that created the mess, but the actor didn’t buy it. “They’re teacup Yorkies,” he testified, according to Entertainment Weekly. “They weigh about 4 pounds each. The photograph that I saw — I lived with those dogs for many years. It was not the dogs.”
“I didn’t feel like I deserved that kind of treatment,” Depp said.
“I was shown a picture of what the problem was,” the 58-year-old recounted about the alleged incident. “I had gone to Mr. Bett and said, ‘She’s at Coachella. I think it’s a good time to go downtown so that I can get some of my things and get them out of there,’ especially things that were precious to me … and he said, ‘I don’t think now’s a good time to go.’ And I thought, ‘It’s the perfect time. She’s not going to be home for two days.’ Then he showed me a photograph on his telephone of … it was a photograph of our bed, and on my side of the bed was human fecal matter.”
Depp said his “initial response” to being shown the photo was to “laugh.”
“I laughed,” he testified. “It was so outside. It was so bizarre and so grotesque that I could only laugh.”
Depp’s team also played audio of Heard admitting to “hitting” the actor.
“I didn’t punch you, by the way,” Heard said in the provided audio. “I’m sorry that I didn’t hit you across the face in a proper slap. But, I was hitting you. It was not punching you.”
“You’re a f***ing baby,” the actress added. “You are such a baby! Grow the f*** up, Johnny.”
Heard is countersuing Depp for $100 million in damages, accusing her ex’s legal team of making false claims about her.
