It seems Steven Avery himself, from behind bars, may be directing supporters to tank the Rotten Tomatoes’ audience review score of Daily Wire host Candace Owens’ docuseries “Convicting a Murderer” (CAM).

Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, were convicted of murdering photographer Teresa Halbach back in 2007. The pair are featured in Netflix’s limited series “Making a Murderer” (MAM), garnering attention from celebrities and others online contending Avery is innocent. Owens’ “CAM” tells the other side of the Avery case, specifically sharing information omitted or arguably manipulated within “MAM.”

“IMPORTANT: Steven is asking for all his supporters to flood Rotten Tomatoes and give ‘Convicting a Murderer’ a bad review,” reads a post on the Facebook group called “Steven Avery is INNOCENT.” “This garbage and vitriol is NOT TRUE and we need our community to step up and let Candance [sic] Owens know that STEVEN AVERY IS INNOCENT!”

The Facebook post, issued by the group’s administrator on Friday night, then links to the Rotten Tomatoes review page of “CAM.” It also tags “everyone” in the group, meaning the 36,200-plus members of the group would get a notification about the post.

Before the post, “CAM” was boasting an average review score in the 90s, but is now seeing a drop in that score, down to a 73% score by Saturday afternoon. Notably, it was just hours after this Facebook post was issued that “CAM” was flooded with bad reviews.

The “Steven Avery is INNOCENT” Facebook group routinely claims to have contact with Avery from prison. In numerous posts, random supporters of Avery are awarded a prize supposedly from Avery himself. One “top contributor” of the group is a woman named Sandy Greenman; she’s Avery’s ex-girlfriend and told Newsweek in 2020 that she speaks to the convict nearly every day. Greenman also posts photos of herself visiting Avery in prison. Moreover, in an apparent recording of Avery from March, the convict talks about being relayed everyone’s messages on his “site;” the “Steven Avery is INNOCENT” Facebook group has claimed credit here, suggesting Avery is referring to their Facebook group.

Additionally, it seems Avery is well aware of The Daily Wire’s “CAM” docuseries, seemingly telling supporters in an online recording, which was posted four months ago, to refrain from watching the “garbage” content.

In the recording, Avery says his brother Chuck has mentioned “this new documentary,” seemingly referring to “CAM,” and states, “nobody should watch that. … It’s garbage, straight up garbage, there’s a whole bunch of lies.”
