In 2020, Biden Promised To ‘Shut Down The Virus.’ The CDC Director Just Said COVID ‘Probably’ Isn’t Going Anywhere

“I’m going to shut down the virus, not the country,” said President Joe Biden during his presidential campaign in October 2020.

But now, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Biden administration is admitting that it’s “probably true” that COVID-19 is here to stay.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky appeared on “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday and was asked about whether we will ever be “all clear” of COVID.

“We’re going into year two, people think we’re waiting for you to sound the trumpet, say it’s all clear. We’re not really going to get an all clear are we? We just have to face the fact that we’re going to have to live with this, true?” asked host Gayle King.

“I think that that’s probably true,” Walensky responded. “But what I would say is we have a lot of control and power to do that as we come together, as we get vaccinated, as we do those prevention things that work to protect one another and ourselves, and our family. We can bring down the amount of disease in this country and get much faster to that place.”

However, as Fox News pointed out, “President Biden’s previous promises to ‘shut down the virus’ have slowly been walked back after the discovery of the Omicron variant, with the president saying the United States will need to ‘beat it back’ before we ‘shut it down.’”

“We gotta beat it back before we shut it down. Look, this is gonna take time worldwide. In order to beat COVID, we need to shut it down worldwide,” Biden replied when asked if he still intended to “shut down” the virus during a Dec. 3 press conference, Fox added.

“Experts say that COVID-19 cases will continue to rise in the weeks ahead this winter, and that we will see more omicron cases here in the United States in the days, weeks and months ahead,” Biden wrote in an op-ed for USA Today. “I know that Americans are exhausted from COVID-19 and want to know when it will end, and the new variant is adding to that unease.”

“We will beat it back with science and speed, not chaos and confusion — just as we did in the spring and again with the more powerful delta variant in the summer and fall,” he continued.

“The president — and you’ll hear him speak to this today — continues to believe that if we build on the bold steps that we’ve taken to date, if we continue to make the vaccines more accessible, to increase testing, increase masking, we can return to a more — a version of normal in this country,” said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on the subject of Biden’s strategy. “That’s what everybody wants and everybody would like to see.”
