<p>Actress and Democrat surrogate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-actress-eva-longoria-left-the-country-over-taxes-and-homelessness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eva Longoria</a> said this past week that she&#8217;s a &#8220;proud American&#8221; and didn&#8217;t leave the country over Donald Trump&#8217;s 2024 election win, despite some headlines saying otherwise.</p>
<p>Longoria&#8217;s comments follow backlash over a recent interview she gave to <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/culture/eva-longoria-nov-2024-cover/">Marie Claire</a>. Notably, the actress dissed &#8220;convicted criminal&#8221; President-elect Trump and acknowledged her supposed privilege for being able to leave the country, which she classified as &#8220;dystopian.&#8221; She also revealed that she&#8217;s been living outside of the U.S. for three years, citing California taxes and homelessness, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/liberal-actress-eva-longoria-left-the-country-over-taxes-and-homelessness" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.</p>
<p>&#8220;Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?&#8221; Longoria told &#8220;The View&#8221; cohost Ana Navarro on Friday, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/eva-longoria-says-trumps-win-not-why-she-left-us-despite-sharing-anxieties-over-his-victory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been in Europe for almost three years. That’s in the article, by the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive. Which makes me so sad that everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can&#8217;t be that way right now.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I didn’t leave because of the political environment,&#8221; Longoria insisted. &#8220;I left because my work took me there.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a proud American,&#8221; the 49-year-old continued. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American. I didn&#8217;t want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections.&#8221;</p>

<p>Longoria struck a different tone when recently speaking to Marie Claire, however. She told the magazine that she&#8217;s &#8220;privileged&#8221; and gets to &#8220;escape and go somewhere,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”</p>
<p>“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” Longoria added, referring to Trump.</p>
<p>The Hollywood star also complained about the election results. “The shocking part is not that [Donald] Trump won,” she said. “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”</p>
<p>Longoria endorsed VP Kamala Harris for president this election cycle and spoke at the Democratic National Convention.</p>
