Never interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake. And never, ever interrupt the Left when they’re being spectacularly, self-immolatingly stupid.
On Thursday, the New York Times published a piece that was supposed to manufacture outrage. Instead, it handed the entire country a gift-wrapped argument for deportation.
“Trans Migrants in ICE Detention Are Losing Their Rights and Medical Care”
Translation: Biological men who entered the country illegally, some with criminal records at home, some with criminal records here, who had been receiving taxpayer-funded cross-sex hormones, are now no longer receiving those hormones… and are being removed.
I’m struggling to locate the tragedy.
The Department of Homeland Security responded with this clarity:
[The NYT] is more concerned about us not providing hormone therapy for these criminals than the countless Americans who have been victimized by illegal aliens. To be clear: we are NOT wasting taxpayer dollars to provide hormone therapy to illegal aliens seeking to change their sex.
The national debt just crossed $40 trillion. Saving money by declining to medically cosplay for foreign criminals seems, to the average Joe, like basic adulting. But to the Times it is a human-rights crisis.
The article’s star is a 25-year-old Venezuelan illegal who had been living in New York, drawing hormones through a combination of Medicaid, city clinics, and the city’s $15 million gender-affirming care fund. The Left is currently having a collective nervous breakdown because this individual is now housed with other men and no longer receiving magical girl drops on the American taxpayer’s dime.
Woke 1.0 never left. It simply mutated into something uglier.
But the Times conveniently avoided answering some questions: How many of the hundreds of ICE facilities are still providing this care? How much have taxpayers already spent? Under Obama alone, hundreds of thousands of dollars went to hormone therapy for the small number of transgender detainees. Across the Obama and Biden years, when you include the much larger population free in sanctuary cities, the total for gender-related treatment for illegal immigrants climbs into the tens of millions.
This ridiculous reality is in large part why the Left lost so terribly in the 2024 elections: The Left is for “they.” Republicans are for you.
Yet progressives keep choosing the 10 percent side of every 90/10 issue. They will fight harder for free hormones for foreign sex offenders than they will for American women locked in the same prisons as biological males who identify as women — men who, according to multiple state and federal datasets, commit a wildly disproportionate share of sexual assaults inside women’s facilities. But if they want to continue to alienate voters and sane humans? Be our guest.
Meanwhile, the same outlets that weep for Camila Toro de Paula have little interest in Leah Kahare, the 29-year-old Massachusetts woman killed by an illegal alien from Brazil in a hit-and-run. Or the mother stabbed to death on a Great Falls jogging trail by a Salvadoran illegal. Or the 18-year-old illegal from El Salvador who racked up nine counts of assault and battery for groping underage girls at a Fairfax County high school. Those stories somehow never make the front page.
Instead, we are treated to the poignant declaration: “I want to be heard. Women like me have been disrespected enough. No more.”
Funny. I feel rather disrespected every time someone insists my tax dollars should underwrite estrogen regimens for criminals, that biological males belong in my locker rooms and sports, or that a man who started identifying as a woman last Tuesday possesses a deeper understanding of womanhood than I do.
Yes. That was an actual thing that was said.
ICE is unpopular right now, thanks to a handful of high-profile deaths earlier this year — but it’s still operating quietly and effectively to keep Americans safe. The job is being done. What’s in question is how the public perceives it.
Republicans win the messaging war on this the same way they win most political battles: by getting out of the way and letting the Left keep talking.
It’s a good thing to remove criminal illegal aliens from our nation who are slaughtering American citizens. It’s a good thing to save taxpayer dollars from going towards trans treatment for confused criminals. And it’s a good thing to let the Left keep marinating in a metastasized Woke 1 — curated by the most online, most anxious demographic in American politics (young liberal women, half of whom report a mental-health diagnosis) while they simultaneously romanticize mothers who kill their children and men who demand the rest of us pretend they are ladies.
That’s how you win the ICE battle. Just get out of the way, and let them make fools of themselves.
And if the gender-confused illegal aliens are shopping for a more affirming environment, I hear Gaza and Iran are doing wonders for women’s rights these days. According to the uniparty, anyway.
