Candace Owens gave a sneak peek at her upcoming Daily Wire+ series “Convicting a Murderer” and said viewers were misled by the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series “Making a Murderer,” that the real victim here isn’t Steven Avery.

The Daily Wire podcast host sat down with Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles as the host got Owens to spill some details about her new 10-part series that unveils the shocking truth behind one of the most controversial criminal cases in recent history.

Avery’s case was popularized by the success of “Making a Murderer,” in which Avery was portrayed as an innocent victim of corrupt law enforcement — but Owens says there’s more to the story of Teresa Halbach’s murder than what viewers were shown in the Netflix series.

The Daily Wire host said the documentary makers “knew that they could just manipulate people’s emotions” and “make them think that Avery,” who she said is a “very aggressive person,” could “potentially be an angel.” She said viewers are going to be “shocked” at “how far the media will go to sell you an idea” and how often they “omit the facts.”

Owens said what the tens of millions of people who followed the original series are going to find is “that the real victim in this case was Teresa Halbach.”

“You are talking about a woman who was in her early 20s, just starting her life, who was fearful of Steven Avery, who was found in a burn pit,” Candace said. “She was raped, she was mutilated. She was cut up into little pieces. They had to use her bone fragments to even put together her DNA.”

“She had a devout Catholic family who handled this with extreme grace and because of the poisoning of the media, that family was attacked,” she added. “Because of people like Alec Baldwin, a mob descended online to tell them wild conspiracy theories … because a Netflix documentary had led them to believe that a man, Steven Avery, was completely innocent, is shocking.”

“And I wanted to make sure as we did this docuseries that we also told the story of the real victim in this case because [the filmmakers] led everybody to believe that it was Steven Avery and that the perpetrators were the police,” the Daily Wire host continued. “The victim in this case was the young woman who lost her life in one of the most horrific ways unimaginable…And taking you on that journey, there’s so many plot twists.”

Candace noted that DailyWire+ will stream the first two episodes of “Convicting a Murderer” for free on the platform on Friday with early access for members beginning on Thursday. Episode one will also be available to view on the DailyWire+ YouTube channel as well as on X. The remaining seven episodes will debut weekly on the subscriber-based streaming service every Thursday.
