According to a transcript released from the Kremlin, Hollywood film director Oliver Stone, who won an Oscar for “Platoon” and has a long history of leftist rhetoric, spoke with Russian president Vladimir Putin and told him he would have liked him to be the godfather to Stone’s daughter.
The Daily Mail reports that Stone spoke to Putin on June 19 about Putin being the godfather to the children of Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, prompting Putin to note that according to Russian Orthodox tradition a person cannot refuse a request to be named a child’s godfather. Stone reportedly responded, “Oh, you cannot refuse it? I thought it was a big honor for you to be the godfather of his daughter. I would ask you to be the godfather for my daughter.” The two men then allegedly discussed the possibility of Stone’s daughter Tara becoming an Orthodox Christian and Stone remarking, “We’ll make her that.”
