Hollywood stars hit the red carpet on Sunday ahead of the 2024 Golden Globes, and some made an effort to show their support for the hostages still being held by Hamas following the terrorist attack on Oct. 7.

Actress J. Smith-Cameron and actor John Ortiz were just a few of the elite performers who showed up to the 81st annual awards show donning a little yellow ribbon pinned on their outfits, the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Bring Them Home Now, the Israeli hostage advocacy organization, worked behind the scenes to supply the ribbons for the stars to wear in support of the 130 hostages who have been held in captivity following Hamas attack on Israel that has resulted in the death of 1,400 people, THR noted.

Social media users praised the move and wrote “thank you to [Succession] star J. Smith-Cameron for wearing a yellow ribbon at the [Golden Globes] — demanding the return of the hostages in Hamas captivity in Gaza.”

Another added, “We appreciate so many advocates showing support for Israeli hostages in Gaza at the Golden Globes. During times like these, the entertainment industry’s support is needed more than ever. We commend those using their platform to Bring Them Home Now.”

Wearing the yellow ribbon to commemorate a loved one far away dates back to a song first recorded in 1917 – which gained popularity when a new version was released with the John Wayne film “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.” The practice once again became popular during the the Iran hostage crisis in 1979, when Americans tied yellow ribbons around trees and wore yellow ribbons on their lapels in support of the 52 Americans who were being were held in captivity in Tehran for 444 days.

The ribbons were worn in support of bringing the hostages home safely, which finally occurred minutes after late-President Ronald Reagan’s first inauguration on January 20, 1981.

A clock on the Bring Them Home Now website, at the time of this publication, read, “93 days, 9 hours, 56 minutes and 29 seconds” since being taken by Hamas.

“We demand the safe return of all citizens who have been taken hostage by the terrorist group Hamas,” the message added. “We will not rest until every hostage is released and returns home safely. You can help bring them back home.”
