Hollywood director Jon M. Chu said pop star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/britney-spears">Britney Spears</a> will be “very involved” in an upcoming biopic movie based on her best selling memoir “The Woman in Me.”
Speaking during a red carpet interview at the Golden Globes with <a href="https://www.billboard.com/culture/tv-film/wicked-director-jon-m-chu-talks-britney-spears-biopic-cynthia-erivo-wicked-song-1235869793/">Billboard magazine</a>, the director of “Wicked” said he couldn’t “really can’t talk about” the upcoming project from Universal Pictures but did make it clear he’s a “big fan” of Spears.
“I’ve been a fan since I was young and she was young and she was one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium,” Chu said. “So I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead.”
“She’s going to be very involved,” he added, per <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTqZq14MNzA">Entertainment Tonight</a>. “I haven’t really started anything fully yet, but she will be very involved in this. I have ideas and things, an approach, but it’s very early.”

In November, the director confirmed the movie was happening, telling the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/jon-m-chu-interview-wicked-crazy-rich-asians-britney-biopic-1236059843/">Hollywood Reporter</a> that the script wasn’t even written yet. However, Chu did say that he expects it to be “a lot about how we treat people, young people, stars that we think we own, women, mothers.”
<a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/britney-spears-biopic-movie-universal-1236093017/">Variety</a> previously reported that Universal Pictures had bought the rights to Spears’ tell-all <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/britney-spears-says-new-memoir-set-huge-milestone-one-day-after-release">memoir</a> which centers on her rise to fame, her nearly 14-year-long conservatorship, and her relationship with Justin Timberlake when she was younger.
In the memoir-released in October 2023- <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/britney-spears-says-she-got-an-abortion-while-dating-justin-timberlake">Spears</a> revealed that while she and Timberlake were dating she got <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/britney-spears-says-she-got-an-abortion-while-dating-justin-timberlake">pregnant</a> at 19 and ended up getting an abortion, claiming that it was in large part because Timberlake “didn’t want to be a father.”

The two dated from 1999 — when she was 17 and he was 18 — until 2002, <a href="https://variety.com/2023/music/news/britney-spears-abortion-justin-timberlake-1235759140/">Variety</a> noted.
She <a href="https://people.com/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-pregnancy-abortion-exclusive-8362622">wrote</a> that if it had been left up to her alone, she never would have aborted the baby, but added that Timberlake said they were “too young” to have a child.
“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy,” the former “The Mickey Mouse Club” star wrote. “I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.”
“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” she added. “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” the singer <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12654057/Britney-Spears-excruciating-pain-abortion-Justin-Timberlake-pregnant.html">continued</a>. “And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father. To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
