As the West reels from a series of radical Islamic terrorist attacks, European leaders are taking the path of least resistance and forfeiting Western values to appease Islam. As the leader of the first “secular” Republic, socialist French President Francois Hollande may very well be the poster boy for this historically significant moment of submission.
In a speech widely considered to mark the beginnings of an aggressive re-election campaign, the increasingly unpopular Hollande declared that France should “embrace” Islam.
“The question the Republic must answer is: Is it really ready to embrace a religion that it did not expect to be this big over a century ago?” asked Hollande. “There too, my answer is yes, certainly.”
Hollande continued: “Nothing in the idea of secularism opposes the practice of Islam in France, provided it respects the law.”
In opposition to 30 French mayors overwhelmed by the flood of Muslim refugees, Hollande also condemned the controversial burkini ban as “unconstitutional.”
In a rebuke to Hollande’s liberal posturing, former right-leaning President Nicholas Sarkozy warned France that it should never surrender its democratic ideals. “Democracy can’t be weak. We are France, we cannot accept impotence,” asserted Sarkozy.
Challenging Hollande’s precarious seat at the president’s office, Sarkozy added, “I want to be president of a Republic which will protect the French people and which will defend France.”
