The bystander who confronted and killed the gunman in the Silver Rail Elementary School shooting has been identified as Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter and father of two girls who attend the school, his brother confirmed to NBC News.
Giamanco was driving home for his lunch break when he heard gunshots and saw the gunman enter the school, his brother said. Despite not being there to pick up his children, Giamanco, who was carrying a concealed firearm, went inside and shot the gunman.
Giamanco’s brother described him as a hero, but said Giamanco has struggled with the thought that he could not save more children. Four people, including three children, were killed by the gunman. The three children killed were ages 5, 8, and 11.
Of those injured, a 7-year-old victim was airlifted from St. Charles Bend to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland Thursday night, sources close to the situation informed The Daily Wire. The young victim received emergency surgery after being shot in the face.
The Daily Wire reached out to Giamanco for comment.
