Here’s What Stacey Abrams Said About Not Accepting Election Results In 2016

Failed Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who refuses to accept the fact that she lost an election last year, said in 2016 that it was “disturbing” and “distressing” that people would even dare to not accept the results of an election.

A video sent to The Daily Wire shows Abrams denouncing the idea of not accepting the results of an election in an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Sorkin in October 2016.

“You’re in a state that if it does go to Trump, we may still have a national election in which Hillary Clinton were to win,” Sorkin said. “One of the articles in USA Today this morning, suggest that 4 out of 10 Trump supporters would not recognize such a win if that were the case.”

“What does that mean for a state like this?” Sorkin asked.

“I think what it signals is a shifting of our politics that we’re going to have to work together to shift back,” Abrams replied. “The rancor that pervaded this campaign is disturbing and it is distressing, but it is also a fixable problem. The enthusiasm for Sarah Palin had a similar bent but we eventually found our way back to being good citizens and I think we’ll do the same.”

The video resurfaced after Abrams falsely claimed on Wednesday that she won her election last year against Republican Brian Kemp, even though Kemp won by 54,723 votes in the free and fair election.

“We had this little election back in 2018,” Abrams said. “And despite the final tally and the inauguration and the situation we find ourselves in, I do have very affirmative statement to make: We won.”

“I am not the governor of Georgia, remember I told you about my opponent?” Abrams continued. “You see not only was he the Secretary of State, he was also the architect of voter suppression. We can work as hard as we want, we can fight rights, but if you’re fighting against the system that is designed to oppress you, sometimes you got to fight a little bit longer than you think.”

“On November 6, I said from the podium that we were going to not declare anything until every vote is counted, and on November 16, I decided to acknowledge the states of the election but I refused to concede,” Abrams continued. “Because here’s the thing concession means to say something is right and true and proper.”

“I’m a good lawyer, and I understand that the law of the land said that Brian Kemp became governor that day and I acknowledge that, but you can’t trick me into saying it was right,” Abrams concluded. “You can’t shame me into pretending what happened should have happened.”

After losing the election, Abrams revealed last month that she spent a “10-day period plotting,” adding “revenge can be very cathartic.”

Immediately following her defeat, Abrams gave a speech saying: “This is not a speech of concession because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper … I cannot concede that.”
