Here’s What Jimmy Carter Did About Muslim Immigration

As the Left bemoans the apparent “Islamophobia” of Donald Trump, they willingly turn a blind eye to Jimmy Carter, peanut farmer and liberal icon. Trump may entertain the idea of “banning Muslims” from entering the United States, but then-President Carter actually went through with it.

“During the Iranian hostage crisis, Carter issued a number of orders to put pressure on Iran,” explains Frontpage Mag. “Among these, Iranians were banned from entering the United States unless they opposed the Shiite Islamist regime or had a medical emergency.”

Carter’s actions are seemingly more “racist,” at least according to the tenets of identity politics, than anything Trump is even considering. While Trump is considering a religious test on Muslim immigrants, Carter selectively targeted a specific ethnic group, Iranians, as a means of “protecting the country.”

Here is Carter in his own words:

Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly.

Recent reports suggest that social justice warriors have not taken to streets demanding that Carter’s statue be taken down or chiseled away. President Woodrow Wilson wasn’t as lucky. The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro reports, “Thanks to the courageous intervention of the Black Justice League at Princeton University – which, contrary to public perception, does not include Cyborg, Amazing Man, Batwing, Firestorm, or Green Lantern John Stewart – the college administration will now remove Woodrow Wilson’s name from campus buildings, and a mural of Woodrow Wilson from the Wilcox dining hall.”

It appears as though leftist outrage is reserved for a chosen few. Pacifists, Hamas supporters and anti-Semites, apt descriptions of the honorable Jimmy Carter, are immune from condemnation or historical review. “The Leftist Ministry of History has spoken: all your history are belong to them,” says Shapiro.
