The decade's most triggering comedy
Jameela Jamil did not have a good Monday. The outspoken activist actress was one of several blue checks who threatened to stop using their Twitter accounts in the wake of Elon Musk purchasing the company for a deal worth $44 billion.
“Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet,” the 36-year-old actress wrote. “I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck.”
Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet. Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold. The “Good Place” star has one million followers on the platform. She limited replies on her tweet to followers only.
In a previous post, Jamil had shared, “One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really. 😂”
Plenty of Jamil’s critics were excited to see her go.
“ONE DOWN: Former Good Place Actress Turned Annoying Activist Jameela Jamil Quits Twitter Over Elon Musk Purchase,” Cassandra MacDonald shared.
“The woke warriors are now cancelling themselves,” Mark Dolan wrote.
“Jameela Jamil has decided she cannot cope with a Twitter owned by Elon Musk. She was fine with Saudi being a large shareholder though and probably doesn’t mind TikTok. I will miss her towering intellect,” filmmaker Hayden Hewitt agreed.
Previously, Jamil had threatened to leave Hollywood completely, claiming that celebrities are “useless.”
“…F**k ‘em. Just f**k ‘em all. F**k us all. We’re useless,” the actress said during a podcast interview.
“Sorry, no offense, but we’re crap,” she continued. “I’ve always thought that we were crap, and so it’s been quite exciting to watch the rise of the people who are actually gonna make a real difference in this world.”
The “Good Place” star is an outspoken abortion advocate who frequently speaks on LGBT issues, especially trans rights. She’s accused the pro-life community of being “pro-birth” only.
Musk has shaken the Hollywood community, and the world, with his decision to buy the popular social media platform.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a statement following the purchase. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
