Halsey called out record label Astralwerks/Capitol as the singer claims it refuses to allow the release of a new song by the superstar until the pop star “can fake a viral moment on TikTok.”

The superstar singer told millions of followers on TikTok in a 29-second clip that “everything is marketing” as the singer shared the “song I love” can’t come out, as a tune in the background that sounded like the singer’s voice played, reported Variety in a piece published Sunday.

“Basically, I have a song that I love that I want to release ASAP, but my record label won’t let me,” the 27-year-old singer shared in a clip posted on social media.

“I’ve been in this industry for eight years and I’ve sold over 165 million records and my record company is saying I can’t release [the song] unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok,” the singer added.

“Everything is marketing,” Halsey continued. “And they are doing this to every artist these days. I just want to release music, man and I deserve better tbh[to be honest]. I’m tired.”

At the time of this publication, the clip has been liked 1.1 million times.

In response, the singer’s record label said that “Our belief in Halsey as a singular and important artist is total and unwavering. We can’t wait for the world to hear their brilliant new music,” reported E! News.

The singer, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, later took to Twitter and said that the label was happy with the response to the TikTok but still wasn’t ready to release it yet.

“Talked to my label tonight after my TikTok tantrum,” Halsey tweeted. “They said ‘wow the tiktok is going really strong!’ I was like ok cool so can I release my song now? They said ‘we’ll see!’ Tell me again how I’m making this up.”

“At this point I don’t know what to do because I told the truth about what’s happening and now I STILL don’t have a release date AND some of you think I’m lying about this whole fiasco,” the singer added in a post Monday. “So I’m double f***ed lol. If you have questions, I have answers. I have nothing to hide.”

“Honestly [I don’t know] the TikTok is already viral + I still don’t have a release date,” Halsey continued. “I would say just do what you guys normally are amazing at doing when I announce a song (under better circumstances). They haven’t given me a date and I wanna release it ASAP so that’s really the hold up.”

Halsey signed to Astralwerks in 2014, but the singer has since tweeted that the label “upstreamed me to Capitol” and that the quote from E! News is from the “company who believed in me from the jump. Not the company I’m wrestling with right now.”
