South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham warned on Tuesday that Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg could be a “force to be reckoned with” in 2020.

Graham made the remarks when he was asked about his thoughts on the former mayor while speaking to SiriusXM’s “The Morning Brief with Tim Farley.”

“I think it was a good mayor and I think he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with, if you got sixty billion dollars you can tell your own story,” Graham said. “I think you’d be forced to be reckoned with, but the problem is I don’t know if the Bernie people would tolerate a Bloomberg.”

Graham also called Bloomberg’s decision to only attack Trump and not his Democratic rivals “smart.”

“That’s smart because you know the goal of the Democratic party’s to beat President Trump,” Graham said. “I’ve never seen Republicans this united, this never Trump, he’s at ninety percent in South Carolina, pretty much all over the country. He’s got Reagan like numbers and the Democratic Party is trying to find this identity between socialism, liberalism, and moderation and all the energy seems to be with Bernie. I just don’t believe the Bernie voter would accept a Bloomberg candidacy.”

Graham concluded, “Yeah, I mean he can do some damage to Trump to just trying to knock his numbers down, but I don’t think he’s in it just to hurt Trump, I think he’s in it to win it and come Super Tuesday, if he’s already in the low-teens polling nationally, if he can grab some delegates on Super Tuesday this is probably a brokered convention and he is going to be the guy to fill the Biden lane in his own mind.”

TRANSCRIPT:

TIM FARLEY: “Senator Graham, what do you think of Michael Bloomberg?”

LINDSEY GRAHAM: “I think it was a good mayor and I think he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with, if you got sixty billion dollars you can tell your own story. I think you’d be forced to be reckoned with, but the problem is I don’t know if the Bernie people would tolerate a Bloomberg.”

FARLEY: “Well, most of the ads he’s running seem to be attacking President Trump—”

GRAHAM: “That’s smart”

FARLEY: “–not attacking any of his other Democrats”

GRAHAM: “That’s smart because you know the goal of the Democratic party’s to beat President Trump. I’ve never seen Republicans this united, this never Trump, he’s at ninety percent in South Carolina, pretty much all over the country. He’s got Reagan like numbers and the Democratic Party is trying to find this identity between socialism, liberalism, and moderation and all the energy seems to be with Bernie. I just don’t believe the Bernie voter would accept a Bloomberg candidacy.”

FARLEY: “Yeah, but if he uses his advertising money, even if he doesn’t win the nomination and continue on, that’s got to be a force”

GRAHAM: “Yeah, I mean he can do some damage to Trump to just trying to knock his numbers down, but I don’t think he’s in it just to hurt Trump, I think he’s in it to win it and come Super Tuesday, if he’s already in the low-teens polling nationally, if he can grab some delegates on Super Tuesday this is probably a brokered convention and he is going to be the guy to fill the Biden lane in his own mind.”
