A detransition clinic has officially opened in Texas — at a hospital that previously performed gender procedures on minors.
Texas Children’s Hospital opened the nation’s first detransition clinic on Monday, offering free medical care to patients seeking to reverse gender treatments following a landmark $10 million settlement over the hospital’s treatment of minors.
Former Texas Children’s nurse and whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge announced the clinic’s opening, celebrating the victory after exposing the hospital’s transgender medical practices and helping bring scrutiny to its billing of taxpayer-funded Medicaid.
The hospital had provided gender-transition treatments to minors for years, with the settlement addressing alleged misconduct dating back to 2010. Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s now running for U.S. Senate, launched an investigation in 2023 after allegations surfaced that the hospital continued providing prohibited treatments to children. Sivadge said the hospital improperly billed Medicaid for gender procedures using false diagnosis codes. The hospital disputed wrongdoing.

Under the settlement, the hospital must provide detransition-related care free of charge for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, fertility counseling, mental health services, and primary care. The clinic serves patients through age 21, with certain gynecological services available to older patients, according to the clinic website.
“I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard,” Sivadge wrote Monday. “This win is for them.”

I extend my heartfelt gratitude once again to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and my attorneys at the Burke Law Group for their extraordinary dedication, sacrifice, and tireless efforts throughout this fight. Their commitment helped turn a painful and difficult chapter into an opportunity for meaningful change. @KenPaxtonTX @BurkeLawTweets

I hope TCH’s admirable effort to fund and launch Americas first detransition clinic becomes a turning point for the entire country. That this clinic is not the exception, but the first of many.
Today’s a good day. ❤️

The clinic’s opening marks a major political victory for Paxton, who secured the landmark settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital and is now facing Democrat James Talarico in a closely watched U.S. Senate race.
Transgender issues have become a flashpoint in the race, especially since Talarico has made past remarks invoking Jesus to defend so-called gender transitions on confused children.
“What would Jesus do if he visited the Texas legislature? I think he would tell us: ‘Blessed are the trans children who are bullied,'” the Democrat said in 2023.
The same year, Talarico also voted against Texas legislation in banning transgender medical interventions for minors, which can be irreversible and carry significant health risks. And in 2025, he voted against legislation requiring certain health insurers to cover treatment for complications stemming from gender-transition procedures, as well as procedures to reverse them.

Texas Children’s previously said it paused gender-transition treatments for minors in 2022 but was accused of continuing them afterward. The hospital has maintained that it complied with the law and settled without admitting wrongdoing.
In a statement sent to The Daily Wire back in May, Texas Children’s Hospital said its move to settle with the Texas attorney general was a “difficult decision.”
The settlement, it said, was aimed at “closing a chapter that has been wrought with falsehoods and distractions.”
“To be clear — we are settling to protect our resources from endless and costly litigation,” the hospital added. “This settlement will allow us to redirect those precious resources to focus on the life-saving care and groundbreaking discoveries of our exceptional clinicians and scientists.”
