New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo claimed during a press conference on Tuesday that he has been more aggressive in protecting nursing homes than any other state. New York state has had by far the most nursing home deaths, which some experts have said was exacerbated by Cuomo’s policy of forcing nursing homes to take patients who tested positive for the coronavirus.
“As a government, we are doing everything that we can,” Cuomo said. “We’re doing more testing than any other state. We’ve been more aggressive than any state in nursing home precautions. We have been smart. New Yorkers have been smart. The government has been smart and that should be respected.”
