Plenty of A-list actresses undergo cosmetic surgery, but most remain coy about it or deny they had the procedures done outright. Not Courteney Cox. The “Friends” alum spoke candidly about her experience going under the knife and how she wasn’t exactly thrilled with the results.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times Style, the actress explained that even though she’s made her peace with “looking older,” she did have a hard time with it in the past.

“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And I tried to chase that (youthfulness) for years,” Cox told the publication. “And I didn’t realize that, oh s***, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.”

The “Scream” star explained how she had an epiphany one day and understood what people, including her friends, “were talking about” when it came to her unfamiliar appearance.

“Because people would talk about me, I think. But there was a period where I went, ‘I’ve got to stop. That’s just crazy,'” she continued.

Instead of just dealing with looking different, Cox opted to have her fillers dissolved in 2017 and made peace with getting older. She discussed the decision with New Beauty that same year.

“I feel better than I’ve ever felt,” the 57-year-old actress said. “Hollywood makes it hard; this business makes it harder. I grew up thinking appearance was the most important thing. That as long as I looked OK, I would be OK, which got me into trouble.”

Cox discussed the slippery slope of beauty treatments. She said after getting a little work done and being encouraged by the doctors, she started getting more and more injections and fillers.

“The next thing you know, you’re layered and layered and layered. You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, “Oh s***, this doesn’t look right.” And it’s worse in pictures than in real life,” the SAG Award winner recalled. “I have one friend who was like, ‘Whoa, no more!’ I thought, I haven’t done anything in six months. I didn’t realize.”

She continued: “I never thought of myself as being delusional. I think photographs do show up worse, so when people in the world see you and write comments that are usually mean, I think, ‘It can be worse than what it really is.’”

The experience was eye-opening. The “Friends” alum decided to undo what she’d done rather than trying to overcorrect with more surgery, which is a trap so many celebrities fall into.

“I’m as natural as I can be,” Cox said. “I feel better because I look like myself. I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do.”

She went on to reflect on the natural process of aging.

“Things are going to change. Everything’s going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake. You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles—they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend,” she said.
