Country singer Jennifer Nettles shared heartbreaking news about her dad on Father’s Day as she revealed that her dad, Beamon Nettles, had passed away in May, something she had previously kept private.
The 47-year-old shared the news with her fans in an Instagram post on Sunday. She revealed that her father, who she called a “precious, quiet soul,” had died on May 14. In the post, she shared a video of her playing the guitar and singing what she called his favorite song, “The Way I Am” by Merle Haggard. She didn’t offer any other details about his passing.
“I’m often private about certain sacred pieces of my life and I share them as, and if, I am ready,” she wrote. “My daddy, Beamon Nettles, died last month on May 14th. He was a precious, quiet soul who made his way gently in the world.”
“And it is so strange and unreal that he is not here,” she added. “This song was his favorite song. I have a vivid memory of him playing it on 45, singing along as I fell asleep at my grandmother’s (‘Boo-ma’) house. ‘The Way I Am’ by Merle Haggard.”

“I sang it at his funeral,” Nettles continued. “Happy Father’s Day Daddy. You are loved and missed. Hold your Loves close. I hope everyone had a beautiful day. And thank you to all the fathers out there.”
In the video, we see the “Baby Girl” hitmaker sitting on a step and playing her guitar. Near the end, the singer appears to be holding back the tears. And at the conclusion of the song, she looks up at the ceiling and blows a kiss to her father.
The country superstar wasn’t the only celebrity who posted a touching message to their father on Father’s Day. Others included supermodel Gisele Bündchen honoring her husband Tom Brady, and Donald Trump Jr. sharing a series of throwback pictures of him as a child with his dad, former President Donald Trump.
