People loot a store during demonstrations over the death of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer on June 1, 2020 in New York. - New York's mayor Bill de Blasio today declared a city curfew from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am, as sometimes violent anti-racism protests roil communities nationwide. Saying that "we support peaceful protest," De Blasio tweeted he had made the decision in consultation with the state's governor Andrew Cuomo, following the lead of many large US cities that instituted curfews in a bid to clamp down on violence and looting.

Multiple police officers were attacked in Democrat-controlled New York on Monday night as violent rioters broke into stores and stole things.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) posted a video showing a law enforcement officer being attacked in the Bronx.

SBA tweeted: “NYPD Cop attacked in the Bronx. I guess the critics will now say he overreacted. NYPD Cops defend yourselves, you are alone!”

In Buffalo, a driver rammed a truck into a group of law enforcement officials which reportedly left two of them seriously injured.

Another video from Fox News reporter Bryan Llenas showed a police officer who was injured on the ground as other law enforcement officers rushed to his aid. It is not clear what happened to the officer but it is worth noting that the reporter had been taking video in the area of violent rioters breaking into stores and stealing things.

Daily Beast reporter Rachel Olding highlighted another scene where people were allegedly breaking into stores, writing: “Feels like a very organized effort tonight – kids have turned up with hammers and big bags, they have spotters on the corners and cars ready to go. Group of about 500 kids now running up Fifth Ave looting whatever they want.”

Olding added: “No cops anywhere. People are speeding down the street in SUVs. Total lawlessness.”

Olding added: “Absolute anarchy at Herald Square now. Fires being lit, Macy’s looted, I estimate 200 kids here just cheering.”

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) called out New York City’s Democrat leadership, writing on Twitter: “The National Guard needs to get called into NYC to help. @NYCMayor is way out of his element & rioters are ruling the streets. Let’s stop pretending this is just some beautifully peaceful expression of protest. It’s not. Too many heads are dangerously buried in the sand right now.”

Zeldin called out New York City Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio about an hour later and highlighted a video that showed rioters allegedly looting stores.

“Where is @NYCMayor and why hasn’t he requested the National Guard yet to help the NYPD save New York City?” Zeldin continued. “ALL of the city’s elected officials & community leaders need to wake up, rise up, & take back your city. Anyone silent about this right now is an accomplice to these crimes!”

New York Post Editor Sohrab Ahmari blasted New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo late on Monday night over the horrifying state of the city.

Cuomo tweeted: “The president is calling out the American military against American citizens. He used the military to push out a peaceful protest so he could have a photo op at a church. It’s all just a reality TV show for this president. Shameful.”

Ahmari responded: “I was born in Iran. I’ve reported all over the Middle East. I’ve *lived* with human traffickers in Istanbul. Yet I’ve never felt the insecurity of lawlessness and disorder as acutely as I did tonight. In Midtown Manhattan. And this failure is on you and Blas.”

Fox News host Jedediah Bila also blasted Cuomo and de Blasio, writing on Twitter: “An 11pm curfew in Manhattan. What a joke. In the meantime, looters are tearing through the city, busting windows and destroying property while stealing (and have been for hours). Let’s see what happens at 11. You should be ashamed of yourselves, @NYCMayor and @NYGovCuomo.”

Update: The original title said that leaders were asking New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for the National Guard when, in fact, they were asking New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for the National Guard.
