In an exclusive interview with The Daily Wire, an out-of-state college student detailed how he and his fraternity brothers rushed to help the victims of Mayfield, Kentucky, devastated by the tornado that swept through more than 200 miles in the state of Kentucky and killed dozens while destroying untold amounts of acres of property Friday night.

As noted on Sunday, The Daily Wire interviewed individuals in Mayfield, Kentucky, on Saturday to hear their first-hand experience with one of the many tornadoes to wreak havoc across the interior United States.

On Saturday, Governor Andy Beshear (D-KY) told media that “Multiple tornadoes have touched down and we have damage in — I believe  — over a dozen Kentucky counties. The primary tornado was on the ground continuously for over 200 miles in our state, something we have never seen before.”

“We have deaths in multiple — possibly many counties,” the governor added. “The hardest-hit county appears to be Graves, where the city of Mayfield has been devastated.”

On Monday, CBS reported the harrowing story about it was like inside a Mayfield candle factory when the tornado hit:

“Everybody was falling to the bottom of the building,” Barbara Tate, an employee at the Mayfield Consumer Products factory, told CBS News. “All you heard was screaming and hollering and people howling for ‘help me, help me.’ And you crying and want to help them, but you can’t help them because you’re trying to help yourself because you don’t know you’re going to live or die.”

In a series of interviews, videographers from The Daily Wire delivered on-the-ground footage just hours after the tornado had wrought havoc on Mayfield.

“I’m part of a fraternity at Murray State University — Alpha Sigma Phi  — and so a group of us just came out, just wanted to volunteer,” the unidentified man explained to The Daily Wire.

“I’m from out of state in Illinois, but we know a lot of friends and some of their families that are locals around here,” he continued, “So we just wanted to help out and we asked some of our friends if they wanted to come out and help, too.”

“So we figured we’d give our time. You know, we don’t have power or anything at home, so instead of just sitting at home, we wanted to come out and help the community.”

“I’ve seen some pictures but the pictures don’t do it justice,” he explained while surveying the damage, “It’s crazy just coming out and seeing it in the daytime and the nighttime.”

“I don’t even recognize the town anymore,” he added.

Despite the damage and devastation, one of the traits uniting those interviewed by The Daily Wire was the willingness to help others in need.

On Sunday, The Daily Wire reported that one of the survivors in the tornado relied on God during the ordeal and thought of helping his neighbors as soon as it ended.

“I was just praying the whole time,” he told the Daily Wire. “It happened so fast and then it was calm. Everybody got out, made sure everybody was okay, and the first thing you know that we thought of was getting out and helping people.”
