CNN Compares Pro-Life Republicans To Infanticide-Endorsing Democrat Governor

Two CNN shows compared pro-life Republicans to disgraced Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam on Tuesday, suggesting that they were in the same position that he was when he endorsed infanticide earlier this year.

On CNN’s “Inside Politics,” host John King led a discussion on a pro-life law in Mississippi that could be in danger after a recent hearing with a federal judge, NewsBusters’ Curtis Houck reported.

Washington Post reporter Paul Kane then compared Republicans to Northam, saying: “Four months ago, Democrats were on the defensive with Virginia and some of the comments of the governor down there and talking about when life begins and potentially aborting born babies.”

“Now, it’s on completely the opposite foot,” Kane continued. “Republicans are completely on the defensive.”

CNN reporter Kaitlan Collin, who is from Alabama, tried to argue that the state was split on the issue of abortion, which led to this line from Houck:

Sorry, but the vote in the Alabama House was 74-3 and it passed 25-6 in the state Senate, so not exactly a split vote.

On “CNN Right Now,” fill-in host Phil Mattingly discussed the issue of abortion with Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand, who is polling at 0%.

“I guess one of the things I’ve been struck by over the last couple of weeks, particularly in the wake of some of these state-based laws, is it feels like some of the laws have shifted after you had kind of the Virginia law and the dispute over that,” Mattingly said. “The Democrats feel like they are now on offense on this issue. Is that an accurate characterization of your view on things?”

Then, without evidence, Gillibrand claimed that this was all President Donald Trump’s fault.

“I think this is something that President Trump has unleashed,” Gillibrand responded. “He apparently wants to have a war on women in America, and if this is a war that he wants to have, he will have it, and he will lose it, because American women are not going to accept this.”

In January, Northam made the following remarks which exploded into a nationwide controversy:

This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.

“This is pure infanticide. It’s also an argument for eugenic murder (see his comments about deformities),” Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro wrote. “Northam is specifically talking about delivering an infant alive and then asking the mother whether the infant should live or not. This is not an argument about the morning-after pill. It’s not an argument over whether a fetus feels pain. This is a statement that a fully-formed infant, born alive, ought to be murdered if the mother says the infant ought to be murdered. This is pure evil.”
