Actor Chris Pratt said his faith was profoundly impacted by exploring the tomb of St. Peter for an upcoming Vatican documentary he worked on with Pope Leo XIV.
“Pétros Ení — Discovering the Origins” explores the history and archaeological discoveries surrounding the tomb of St. Peter at the Vatican. Produced by AF Films in collaboration with Vatican Media and the Fabric of St. Peter, the documentary marks the 400th anniversary of the consecration of St. Peter’s Basilica, which took place on November 18, 1626, as EWTN reported. The film features Pratt and Pope Leo examining the history of the site, with IMAX drone cameras used to capture the Vatican’s historic surroundings.
“It was really profound to be encountering the remains of one of Jesus’ apostles,” Pratt told Variety during a red carpet interview while promoting the second season of his show, “The Terminal List.”
“[Jesus] said that the church will be built upon that rock. And Simon Peter is the rock. And so, to be there and to see the church some 2,000 years later, and see the prophecy of his words came true, it just was really meaningful to me,” Pratt said during the brief interview.

Pratt is best known for his roles in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World.” In recent years, he has become more outspoken about his Christian faith. He is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, who is Catholic, and regularly attends Mass with her while raising their children in the Church.
The actor has also routinely supported veterans and faced criticism from liberals online over his perceived conservative views, though he has generally stayed out of politics.
Pratt previously told Vatican News that the film helped him deepen his faith.
“What I would like audiences to understand about Peter after watching this documentary is that he was an imperfect man,” Pratt said. “He was a weak man. He was a human being. And I believe we are all broken, imperfect, and weak. But his strength lies in the grace of Jesus and his faith in God. With that strength, through grace and faith, you can be incredibly strong.”
“It was an incredible honor to collaborate with Pope Leo and the Vatican on this project. The story of St. Peter is foundational to the Christian faith, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and access I was given to bring his legacy to the screen,” Pratt said.
“Pétros Ení — Discovering the Origins” is slated for U.S. theatrical release in February 2027.
