According to TMZ, “sources with direct knowledge” informed the outlet that the sons of transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner oppose Jenner running for governor of California. Jenner’s grown sons Brandon, Brody, and Burt “don’t feel she’s qualified for the position and they strongly believe she shouldn’t be mounting a campaign,” TMZ reported.
Three weeks ago, Burt, Jenner’s oldest son, said on Facebook he had deleted the app in order to “stay away from political discussion,” Fox News reported, adding, “Jenner, a Republican, also filed paperwork to seek the governorship and has hired several well-known Republican operatives to guide her burgeoning campaign.”
Jenner’s website boasts “I’m in!” and states:
California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could rturn their dreams into reality. But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.
“David Badash, editor of an LGBTQ-oriented news and opinion site called The New Civil Rights Movement, noted that Jenner’s campaign website outlined no policy positions and offered two options to those visiting the site: ‘Shop’ and ‘Donate,’” NBC News reported.
In 2016, Jenner urged then-South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard to veto a bill requiring transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms matching their sex at birth. News Channel 5 reported: “Jenner urged her Twitter followers on Monday to tell Daugaard to reject the measure and to not make South Dakota the first state to adopt such a law. She also tweeted a link to an American Civil Liberties Union page opposing the bill.”
In October 2018, Jenner, who had previously supported former President Trump, broke with him over transgender issues, saying Trump had “ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity.” Jenner wrote in The Washington Post:
The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president. The leader of our nation has shown no regard for an already marginalized and struggling community. He has ignored our humanity. He has insulted our dignity. He has made trans people into political pawns as he whips up animus against us in an attempt to energize the most right-wing segment of his party, claiming his anti-transgender policies are meant to “protect the country.” This is politics at its worst. It is unacceptable, it is upsetting, and it has deeply, personally hurt me.
Believing that I could work with Trump and his administration to support our community was a mistake. The recently leaked Department of Health and Human Services memo that suggests — preposterously and unscientifically — that the government ought to link gender to one’s genitalia at birth is just one more example in a pattern of political attacks.
