Iconic pop star Britney Spears is celebrating her freedom by liberating herself from clothing.
The 40-year-old mom of two made waves on Instagram this week by posting a totally nude selfie. The image depicts Spears wearing nothing but a white choker necklace and matching knee socks. The “Womanizer” singer used strategically placed pink flower and heart emojis to cover her private parts, but even with that censoring her snapshot left little to the imagination.
Spears has mentioned in the past that she does read social media comments and that “people are absolutely hateful.” So it’s not too shocking that the celeb left comments turned off on this intimate image.
The caption said, “Free woman energy has never felt better,” indicating that the post was done in part to celebrate the end to Spears’ highly publicized 13 year conservatorship, which was terminated in November.
Though Spears has still been performing and releasing music sporadically over the past decade, the biggest headlines surrounding the pop superstar have been related to the “Free Britney” movement.
It all began when Spears exhibited erratic behavior beginning in 2007, which is when she famously shaved her head and attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella as paparazzi gleefully snapped photos of the altercation.
In 2008, she had a standoff with police where she allegedly refused to surrender her sons to her ex-husband Kevin Federline. This led to the court establishing a temporary conservatorship controlled by her father, James Spears. The legal arrangement gave him total control over her estate, now estimated at $60 million, and put him in charge of personal aspects of her life as well.
Devoted fans were irate about the conservatorship for years, but it wasn’t until a June hearing that the situation really came to head. That’s when the “Toxic” composer admitted that she yearned to have more children with boyfriend Sam Ashgari but was unable to because her father was able to force birth control upon her, among other things.
She said:
I was told right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby. I have an I[U]D inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby, but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children, any more children.
This statement and other testimony eventually led to the court ending the conservatorship and giving Spears control of her life again.
On that day, she posted to Instagram, “Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen ????” Britney wrote on Instagram at the time, acknowledging her legal victory, adding the remixed hashtag, “#FreedBritney.”
Spears has been connecting with her extensive fan base via social media for years. This nude photo isn’t much more revealing than other provocative photos she’s posted over the years, and already earned more than 2 million likes from the pop star’s 38.4 million followers.
