Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will respond to the Freedom Convoy by using the nation’s Emergencies Act that would give the federal government additional power to counter protesters across the nation according to reports.

CBC News reported the breaking news based on sources Monday morning regarding the decision that is expected later today.

“The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in the 1980s, defines a national emergency as a temporary ‘urgent and critical situation’ that ‘seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it,'” the outlet reported.

Trudeau shared his latest public update on Sunday night regarding a meeting to “help end the blockades and occupations.”

“Today, I convened another Incident Response Group meeting. We covered further actions the government can take to help end the blockades and occupations. We’ll keep working urgently on this – to protect jobs, public safety, our neighbourhoods, and our economy,” he wrote.

If Trudeau does invoke the measure, it would give him power to prohibit aspects of public assembly and travel in his efforts to stop Freedom Convoy protesters from continuing their efforts to see COVID-19 vaccine mandates repealed.

“The Act, if invoked, will provide the federal government extraordinary 30-day time-limited powers enabling the prohibition of public assembly, travel, and the use of specific property. It would allow Ottawa to designate protected places and force privately-owned tow truck companies to provide their services to the city,” Rebel News reported.

“It would be the first time the Act has been imposed since Trudeau’s father Pierre Elliott Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act to deal with the FLQ crisis in Quebec in 1970,” the report added.

Trudeau has continued to criticize the popular protests, recently even blaming Americans for their involvement.

“This morning, I had a direct call with President Biden to talk about our shared challenges at the border,” Trudeau said, according to Just The News. “I updated him on the situation, particularly in Windsor.”

“We discussed the American, and indeed global influences on the protest. We talked about the U.S.-based flooding of the 911 phone lines in Ottawa, the presence of U.S. citizens in the blockades, and the impact of foreign money to fund this illegal activity,” the prime minister said.

“President Biden and I both agreed that for the security of people and the economy, these blockades cannot continue,” he said. “So make no mistake: the border cannot, and will not stay closed.”

Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro said Trudeau’s attempts to malign and discredit the Freedom Convoy protesters as extremists are going to fail and “backfire” during a recent appearance on Fox News. The Daily Wire previously reported:

“Individuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives. It has to stop,” the prime minister said. “People of Ottawa don’t deserve to be harassed in their own neighborhoods. They don’t deserve to be confronted with the inherent violence of a swastika flying on a street corner or Confederate flag.”

Shapiro said that Trudeau’s repeated attempts to dismiss the protesters as a “small, fringe minority” and lump them all in with extremists, racists, and Nazis are bound to fail.

“This sort of tactic, which Trudeau is picking up from the American Left, is likely to be wildly unsuccessful,” Shapiro said on Fox News. “Everybody can look at this convoy and see that they are not flying Nazi flags en masse, that these are not radical right-wingers. This attempt to paint everybody who is opposed to the authoritarian tactics of the authorities on COVID as Nazis and far-right crazies – it’s going to backfire. It has backfired.”
