WASHINGTON - NOVEMBER 10: Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D-CT) talks about his proposed financial reform legislation during a news conference at the U.S. Capitol November 10, 2009 in Washington, DC. Dodd said the legislation will give government new authority to prevent another economic collapse, protect consumers and dismantle institutions described as "too big to fail."

A top surrogate for 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden suggested on Monday night, amid the chaos that broke out in the Iowa caucuses, that the results from the caucuses could not be trusted.

ABC News reporter Molly Nagle tweeted: “I asked [former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT)] if he thought the Iowa caucus results were discredited following the inconsistencies reported tonight in the results.”

Nagle reports that Dodd told her: “Yeah, sounds to me like if you can’t—you know, if this is wrong what else is wrong?”

Axios reported that Dodd was “a friend and top surrogate for Joe Biden.”

Dana Remus, general counsel for the Biden campaign, sent a letter to the Iowa Democratic Party demanding answers for what happened.

“I write on behalf of the Biden for President Campaign regarding the considerable flaws in tonight’s Iowa Caucus reporting system,” the letter states. “The app that was intended to relay Caucus results to the Party failed; the Party’s back-up telephonic reporting system likewise has failed. Now, we understand that Caucus Chairs are attempting to — and, in many cases, failing to — report results telephonically to the Party. These acute failures are concurring statewide.”

“We appreciate that you plan to brief the campaigns momentarily on these issues, and we plan to participate,” the letter continued. “However, we believe that the campaigns deserve full explanations and relevant information regarding the methods of quality control you are employing, and an opportunity to respond, before any official results are released. We look forward to hearing from you promptly.”

“In the meantime, we are on to New Hampshire, on the road to the most important election of our lifetimes,” the letter concluded.

BuzzFeed News reporter Ruby Cramer reported: “Biden camp still saying official results should be withheld.”
