Black Friday turned truly black on Friday, as four people were shot, two fatally, during Black Friday sales across he country.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, at roughly 1 a.m. on Friday, outside of the Macys department store at the Hamilton Mall, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, Demond Cottman, 21, was shot multiple times; his brother, Shadi Cottman, 26, was wounded with a gunshot wound to his leg. Demond Cottman died at the scene; his brother was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division; he is in stable condition.
In Reno, Nevada, just after stores opened Thursday night, a Walmart customer was fatally shot when he fought over a parking spot. KOLO-TV reported that the altercation began as a road-rage incident; police spokesman Lt. Scott Shaw stated that the suspect was a light-skinned black male.
In Memphis, Tennessee, a man was shot at roughly 11:15 p.m. Thursday night outside the Wolfchase Galleria Mall, according to WREG-TV in Memphis. Three people are in custody; the victim, 21, wound up Baptist Memorial Hospital. Derrick Blackburn, 19, was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon.
