Former Vice President Joe Biden, looking to set up his campaign for the general election, has chosen a new campaign manager, and if Biden’s campaign does as poorly as her last candidate’s campaign, President Trump may have no worries at all.
As Powerline noted, Biden selected Jen O’Malley Dillon. According to The Washington Post, the only presidential campaign she has ever run was former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s. The Post noted:
Former vice president Joe Biden has named Jen O’Malley Dillon as his new campaign manager, a major shake-up that comes just as the party’s leading candidate plans a major organizational expansion to prepare for the general election, according to a person familiar with the decision.
The move is intended to quell concerns that have been raised in recent weeks by senior Democratic strategists about the leadership structure of the Biden campaign, which has been beset by underwhelming fundraising, scant staffing resources and organizational miscues during the early nominating contests.
The Post also pointed out that Dillon served as “a deputy campaign manager for Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection effort.” Dillon’s LinkedIn profile states that in that position she oversaw “the largest field organization in the history of presidential campaigns, voter protection and education programs, and political outreach, and leading the development and use of data analytics to target, register, persuade and mobilize voters. In 2009, President Obama named Jen as his first Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee.”
After joining O’Rourke’s team, Dillon stated:
I believe in Beto because he represents a new generation of leadership we desperately need. Now more than ever, we need a new kind of politics that goes everywhere and writes no one off. Beto’s determination and ability to connect with people on the ground is unmatched, and that’s what it’ll take to assemble a coalition of voters, many who feel left behind by our current political system, to show up. That’s how we beat Donald Trump and move this country forward.
Although there were indications that the supporters of O’Rourke’s campaign blamed the media for his demise in the presidential race after his campaign flamed out last fall, The Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti wrote:
The mainstream media didn’t make O’Rourke livestream a dental appointment, or skateboard across a stage in Iowa, or pose for the cover of Vanity Fair with a sad-looking dog, drop the “f-word” in his speeches, predicate the last month of his tour on a proposal to use law enforcement to confiscate “assault weapons,” or admit to wearing an odd animal costume to perform in a band in the 1990s (earning him an inaccurate, if hilarious, association with Furries, a subculture that adopts animal personas and sometimes dresses in full-body “fursuits”).
After O’Rourke dropped out of the presidential race last fall, he was widely mocked. Even staunch Democrat and Hillary Clinton ally Philippe Reines tweeted: “Tomorrow Beto will acknowledge he could’ve done a better job dropping out, apologize for dropping out badly, say he’s learned from the bad dropout, and ready to re-drop out.”
