Bette Midler got everyone’s attention when she posted a meme on Twitter that mocked Americans who were upset about rising gas prices under President Joe Biden.
The 76-year-old actress’ post, which she shared on social media, Sunday included a photo of a person riding in the back of a Ford pick-up truck with an American flag and Trump flag in the bed.
The message across the photo read, “You bought the gas guzzling truck. Go ahead and whine about gas prices [a crying laughing emoji] I swear I am listening.”

The “Hocus Pocus” star’s comments joins a choir of celebrities who have shown they are out of touch with Americans who are struggling as the prices at the pump continue to rise, with the average cost of gas in the country now at $4.189 per gallon as of 4/4/22, according to AAA.
As previously reported by the Daily Wire, “Star Trek” star George Takei faced a backlash on Twitter after he said American’s could endure the rising cost of food and gas in order to put the “screws” to Russian President Vladimir Putin following his invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Former “Star Trek” actor and left-wing activist George Takei received a verbal smackdown from Twitter users after he claimed that Americans could bear the brunt of rising food and gasoline prices in order to stick it to Vladimir Putin.
“Americans: We can endure higher prices for food and gas if it means putting the screws to Putin. Consider it a patriotic donation in the fight for freedom over tyranny,” Takei wrote on Twitter Friday evening.
Twitter users immediately fired back.
“Hey rich guy, you can endure this, but us working class people, this is crushing us. But what do you [care] looking down your nose at the people who make your world run…” podcaster Britt Griffith replied, including a photo of a gas station with prices in the $6 range.

“Late Night” host Stephen Colbert showed his elitism when it comes to rising prices at the pump when he told his audience he would pay “$15 a gallon because he drives a Tesla,” as previously reported by the Daily Wire.
On Monday, in the face of rising gas prices that may well devastate American consumers, “Late Night” host Stephen Colbert pontificated from his elitist perch, “Today, the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high of over $4/gallon. OK, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two. It’s important. I’m willing to pay $4/gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon b/c I drive a Tesla.”
On the same day, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was pilloried for touting electric vehicles as a solution for rising gas prices; he lauded the nationwide electric vehicle charging network the Biden administration is pushing, saying that Americans from “rural to urban to suburban communities can all benefit from the gas savings of driving an EV.”
