Maher is no conservative, but he says he became a “hero” on Fox News for his willingness to tell the truth about the “the small contingent [of liberals] who’ve gone mental.” The 66-year-old “Real Time with Bill Maher” host is known for being outspoken and blunt in his views, even when they go against the mainstream narrative.
The political commentator once called the former governor of Alaska the “c” word and made a $1 million donation to a super PAC supporting Barack Obama’s re-election, according to the Daily Beast. He’s deviated from his party’s messaging in recent years, however, and isn’t afraid who knows it.
He shared on Twitter about how out of touch liberals are today, saying, “The median voter is a white person in their fifties who didn’t go to college, their favorite TV show is NCIS, and their pronouns are, ‘What? I don’t know what the f*** you’re talking about, and get away from me.’”
The fact that Maher was willing to sit down with Shapiro at all speaks to how unafraid he is of getting canceled by mainstream media. Last fall, Maher publicly invited Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to come on his show, but admitted that it would “probably never happen because Democrats don’t go anywhere these days where they’re not being adored.”
Maher has some hard truths for liberals and nothing is off the table while he’s talking with Shapiro, who was dubbed “a foe of extraordinary polemical agility” by The Washington Post and “one of the most influential people on the internet” by Time.
