Barbra Streisand is once again threatening to move to Canada, this time over the midterm elections.
“I’ve been thinking about, do I want to move to Canada? I don’t know,” Streisand told The New York Times. She said she might pack it up and move if the Democrats don’t take control of the House of Representatives.
“I want to sleep nights … if we take the House I’ll be able to sleep a little bit better,” she said. “I’m just so saddened by this thing happening to our country. It’s making me fat. I hear what he said now, and I have to go eat pancakes now, and pancakes are very fattening.”
Streisand, 76, is putting out a new album — titled “Walls” — on Friday that features a track titled, “Don’t Lie to Me,” which is about President Trump. The song contains the lyrics: “How do you sleep when the world keeps turning?/All that we built has come undone/How do you sleep when the world is burning?/Everyone answers to someone.”
“I would lie awake at night with Trump’s outrages running through my head, and I had to do another album for Columbia Records, so I thought, why not make an album about what’s on my mind? And that became the title of the first song,” Streisand said.
The singer complained about Trump, saying he regularly lies. “Truth has always worked for me, so to see the truth defiled every day is very, very painful for me.”
But Streisand lies sometimes, too, apparently. Take 2016, when she vowed to move away if Trump won the presidency — a pledge that she (not surprisingly) didn’t actually keep.
Before that election, she told the Hollywood Reporter that Trump “has no facts. I don’t know, I can’t believe it. I’m either coming to your country [Australia], if you’ll let me in, or Canada.”
On Trump, she told The Times: “I just can’t stand what’s going on. His assault on our democracy, our institutions, our founders — I think we’re in a fight. … We’re in a war for the soul of America.”
Streisand’s threat follows another by Hollywood actor James Cromwell — who starred in such movies as “Babe,” “The Green Mile,” “Big Hero 6,” and the TV shows “Boardwalk Empire” and “American Horror Story” — that there soon will be “blood in the streets.”
“This is nascent fascism. We always had a turnkey, totalitarian state — all we needed was an excuse, and all the institutions were in place to turn this into pure fascism,” Cromwell said, according to Variety. “If we don’t stop [President Trump] now, then we will have a revolution for real. Then there will be blood in the streets.”
“He echoed these sentiments during his acceptance speech, where he warned that he believes the country is headed toward the possibility of a violent revolution,” Variety reported.
