Ahmed Mohamed, AKA “Clock Boy,” is demanding $15 million from the city of Irving and the Irving School District for “physical and mental anguish.” He is demanding $10 million from the city, and $5 million from the school district.
Lawyers for the family claim that Mohamed was singled out “because of his race, national origin, and religion.”
The family is also demanding an apology from the city’s mayor acknowledging that events leading to Mohamed’s fame weren’t “planned” or part of an “influence operation.”
If the money is not paid within sixty days, the family will file a lawsuit.
Back in September, Mohamed became embroiled in a scandal that drew international attention with perceptions divided roughly along ideological lines. The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro outlined the case against the left-wing narrative of Mohamed as a victim of a widespread anti-Muslim bias and also spoke with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly about it, emphasizing the anti-Islamophobia activism of Ahmed’s father and the reasonable response of the school to what looked to be a hoax bomb situation. Left-wing media hyped this narrative, culminating with President Barack Obama inviting the 14-year-old to the White House via Twitter. A Twitter hashtag campaign entitled #IStandWithAhmed exploded in the days following the event.
Mohamed subsequently traveled to Sudan with his father, who has previously twice run for president against incumbent Omar al-Bashir, and announced that he and his family were moving to Qatar.
