Actress Camryn Manheim said she was disappointed that her son didn’t turn out to be gay.
The Emmy Award-winning “Law & Order” star said as much during her speech at the 2026 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner on Sunday.
“I always wanted a gay son. I did. I love that relationship between gay sons and their mothers,” Manheim said while presenting the Ally for Equality award to Marcia Gay Harden. “I want to be the picket sign holding mom who would beat the sh*t out of somebody for her kid.”
She continued, “I mean, let’s just admit it, gay sons are the best, right? I have photographs of my son in high heels, in full drag. He knows every word to every musical ever written … I mean truly, I thought I had this f*cking thing locked up! But no, no, he’s the only straight guy in his entire musical theater company.”
Manheim recalled the time when Harden told her that her son was gay. The actress said her reaction was, “Oh my God, you are so f*cking lucky.” She said she got jealous when Harden’s son ordered “kinky” red leather boots from Amazon a week later.
Manheim is a single mother to actor Milo Manheim, who is 25. His father is her gay friend, actor and model Jeffrey Brezovar.
Harden, meanwhile, has three children who all identify as “queer,” which she publicized during a 2023 telethon while raising money for LGBT causes.
“My children are all queer,” the actress said at the time. “My eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest is fluid. And you know, they are my kids, and they teach me every day.”
While many commenters argued that Manheim was just “joking” in her speech, others saw it as undeniably sad.
“Children are equivalent to handbags to these narcissists,” one person observed.
“Liberalism is a mental disorder. One of the classic signs is a perverse need for attention. The obsession is so strong that the liberal will often sacrifice their own child to satisfy it,” another commenter wrote.
“Having an alphabet kid is like a trophy for these Hollywood nut jobs,” a third person agreed.
