On March 25, a group of pro-life activists allegedly recovered a box that contained 110 pulverized first-trimester children and five preemie-sized babies from an abortion facility in Washington, D.C. Many contend that at least some of “The Five” highly developed children were murdered in violation of federal law.
Over the past several weeks, many Americans have exhorted officials in the nation’s capital to pursue “Justice for the Five.” Ignoring these calls, Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington, D.C., has accused the “extremist” activists of “tampering with fetal remains.”
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Wire, AJ Hurley — the director of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust and a friend of the activists who recovered the children — explained how he became involved in the efforts to hold government officials accountable for the atrocities unfolding under their watch.
‘I Would Never Be Able To Prepare Myself’
Hurley said that March 25 began as “just an ordinary day” for Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising leaders Lauren Handy and Terrisa Bukovinac.
“They woke up and went to Washington Surgi-Center to counsel abortion-minded women in hopes of saving children from death, while providing necessary resources that curtail the underlining issues as to why women end up there,” he recounted. “While outside the clinic, they saw a truck pull up from a company called Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services.”
According to Hurley, the two women allegedly approached the truck driver as he began loading boxes into the vehicle. “They then proceeded to ask if he knew what was in them. When they told him the place he went into was an abortion clinic and those boxes he had been loading were aborted children, he was beside himself. He frantically checked his paperwork and verified what they had been saying was true.”
Alleged photographs of the box indicated that it was to be sent from Washington Surgi-Clinic to Curtis Bay Medical Waste Facility — a facility that continues to insist to The Daily Wire, contrary to the labels on the box, that it does not burn fetal remains.
Handy and Bukovinac then allegedly pleaded with the driver to give them the box so that they could provide the children with a proper burial. Once the box was scanned and the driver said “I’m not looking,” the women allegedly drove the box to a safe location.
And that is where Hurley unexpectedly found himself in the middle of the events. He received a phone call from Bukovinac — “AJ, I need you here right now” — and immediately left New York City for Washington, D.C.
“I would never be able to prepare myself for what I was going to experience,” Hurley said. “I would have the task of consoling my friends, helping photograph the babies, and make joint decisions as to what the best course of action would be.”
‘I Will Never Be The Same’
Indeed, Hurley — a two-decade veteran of the medical field — failed to wrap his mind around what he called the “pure evil” of abortion while holding the dead children in his hands.
“I’ve spent years responding to 911 calls, worked in several ERs, and have been a pediatric respiratory therapist for the last seven years, putting little babies on ventilators,” Hurley described. “I know what it’s like to show up on-scene, trying to save babies that have been killed. I don’t know if I can truly explain how, but this was just different.”
“The one thing that separated these children — their mangled, dismembered bodies from the others I’ve seen — wasn’t the anger I felt. It wasn’t grief of loss. I can only explain it as a cold, grating feeling of empty silence. Every piece of them felt dark, abandoned, and hollow. I just think that my psyche simply couldn’t separate the humanity and innocence of these precious children from the depravity present in every aspect of society that did this to them.”
“It was like looking at pure evil while gazing upon the mangled image of God. I couldn’t grasp how anyone could be so evil to do this to a child. I ran out of the room, wept, and wrote down the words, ‘I will never be the same.’ Right now, my wife Lori and I are robotically doing what needs to be done to bring these children justice, but we are no doubt going through complex trauma.”
‘Left On A Table To Suffocate’
In the face of officials’ inaction, Hurley claimed that Washington, D.C., is running “a quick coverup for Big Abortion.” He argued that there is “prima-facie evidence” of both infanticide and partial-birth abortion on the babies’ remains.
Harriet — the name given to an intact baby girl — allegedly had “the base of her skull snipped” and “her eye blown open from having her brain suctioned out,” according to Hurley. Christopher X — a baby boy — “was near full-term and dated at 34 weeks old by an independent OB-GYN.” Likewise, he was “completely intact and still pink.”
Meanwhile, baby Phoenix allegedly went through an en caul birth — “meaning that he was still in a completely intact amniotic sac” when delivered from his mother, and likely “left on a table to suffocate in his or her own amniotic fluid.” Hurley recounted that unlike the other babies, Phoenix “was totally blue.”
Lastly, baby girls Angel and Holly were allegedly severely dismembered. “It’s impossible to tell whether or not they were live dismemberments without an autopsy. An autopsy would be able to determine if the drug digoxin was given to euthanize the children prior to abortion. It would tell if they had breathed their first breath. A number of diagnostic tests could determine if federal crimes have been committed,” according to Hurley.
‘You’ve Sat Idly While America Burned’
Hurley added that Christians’ apathy toward abortion has allowed its continuation in the United States.
“Drive down to your local Planned Parenthood this week when it opens. Then google how many churches are within a 10-mile radius of it. Then call those pastors and see if they will join you on the sidewalk,” he suggested. “I can tell you, the only Christians that will show up are the ones with appointments to go inside. That will tell you all you need to know.”
Hurley’s word to fellow Christians? “Weep bitterly.” He also cited Isaiah 1:16-21:
Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil,
learn to do good;
seek justice,
rebuke the oppressor;
defend the fatherless,
plead for the widow.
‘Come now, and let us reason together,’
says the LORD,
‘Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall be as wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be devoured by the sword.’
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
How the faithful city has become a harlot!
It was full of justice;
righteousness lodged in it,
but now murderers.
“The demise of these babies and the courage of the leftist atheists that exposed them is a living and breathing rebuke to the callousness, cowardice, infidelity, and self-love of the ‘American Gospel’ and the leaders that peddle it,” Hurley said. “For 50 years, you have said to these children, ‘Be warmed and filled’ — yet you’ve sat idly and sang ‘Oceans’ while America burned. You have your reward.”
