The body of a missing man has been found in the ventilation system of a Michigan community college after a “foul odor” was reported to authorities.
Jason Anthony Thompson, 36, hadn’t been seen by his family since October 25 and reported him missing to the Sterling Heights Police Department on November 1, NBC News reported. On Sunday, police found his body in the ventilation system at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, a building on the Macomb Community College’s campus, after someone reported a “foul odor” to authorities.
“There is no reason to suspect foul play,” college police Chief William Leavens said, according to NBC. “At this point, it is important to remember that this an ongoing investigation, with the goal to understand the circumstances.”

Thompson was not affiliated with the college, and police are investigating how he ended up in the ventilation system, the Detroit Free Press reported. Police have so far offered no speculation as to how Thompson died or how long he had been in the ventilation system. College police are waiting on the Macomb County medical examiner to determine a cause of death.
“The college community extends heartfelt condolences during this difficult time to Mr. Thompson’s family and friends,” college spokesperson Jeanne M. Nicol told NBC.
