7 Times The Left Ate Their Own

DailyWire.com

It is a biblical principle that everything reproduces after its own kind. Generosity begets generosity, kindness begets kindness, hatred begets hatred, and cruelty begets cruelty.

When this principle is applied to the cultural elitism of the Left it is inevitable that, over time, they will eventually devour themselves. That’s because cultural elitism is based on self-righteous judgmentalism which, in turn, begets even more self-righteous judgmentalism. And so, by its very nature, the circle gets smaller and smaller until the ally of today becomes the enemy of tomorrow.

Here are 7 times the Left devoured their own.

1) Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City — and himself black — is by all means a progressive politician, evidenced by his encouraging Floridians offended by the falsely-labeled “Don’t Say Gay” bill to move to New York where they will find acceptance and tolerance.

Yet when he had the temerity to challenge BLM, Hank Newsome, a regional BLM leader called him a “coon” who “spews conservative and Republican talking points.”

What did Adams do to incur Newsome’s ire?

On April 14, speaking on a NY news channel, Adams, addressing rising rates of violent crime in the city, said, “Where are all those who stated Black Lives Matter? If Black lives matters, then the thousands of people I saw on the street when Floyd was murdered should be on the street right now stating that the lives of these Black children that are dying every night matters. They can’t be hypocrites.”

That is a line you do not cross. You do not challenge BLM hypocrisy, even as a black mayor concerned about black children.

2) Phyliss Chesler, now a retired psychology professor, wrote an August 2020 op-ed titled, “How I Got Cancelled.” In it, she describes herself as “a trendy feminist icon, a ‘public intellectual’, garlanded not once, but twice, by front-page New York Times book reviews.” Indeed, she says, “I’d appeared on the cover of their magazine and on their bestseller lists. I was quoted in the Times all the time and in their counterpart media from coast to coast and all over Europe.”

Then, in 2003, she published The New Antisemitism in which, she explains, “I dared to hold the Western ‘progressive’ intelligentsia responsible for collaborating with Islam’s Big Lies about Israel and the Jews. I also suggested that in our time, anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism.”

From then on, she was virtually cancelled by the Times, but she pressed on, undeterred, determined to expose some of the worst practices of Islam, including honor killing. As a result, in 2017, when it was announced that she was going to address this subject at the University of Arkansas Law School, three anti-Zionist professors threatened violence if she delivered the lecture, even via Skype. The university, in turn, caved to their demands.

3) Podcast giant Joe Rogan, himself a pot-smoking, potty-mouthed, Bernie Sanders supporter incurred the ire of the Left when he dared to use his massive Spotify platform to air opinions that challenged some of the standard talking points about COVID vaccines. As a result, music icons like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell pulled their music from Spotify, calling for a boycott.

Ironically, Rogan has often stated that his parents were hippies, which explains some of his worldview. Yet it was aging hippies who led the charge against him.

4) Bestselling author J. K. Rowling has come under unrelenting fire from the Left for transgressing transgender boundaries, daring to say that it is not “people” who menstruate but “women” who menstruate.

As a result, trans activists and their allies have tried to deplatform her and get her publicity firm to ditch her, not to mention showered her with vile death threats.

Yet for years Rowling has been considered a strong feminist and a gay ally, even declaring that some of her most famous Harry Potter characters are gay.

Unfortunately for her, she crossed a forbidden line.

5) Feminist icon Germaine Greer suffered similar treatment for trespassing transgender boundaries, and she did so in the name of the very feminist causes that made her famous.

In 2015, more than 3,000 people signed a petition to cancel her 2015 lecture at Cardiff University. And who was it that didn’t want her speaking there? The radical Left.

The Cardiff University Student Union that started the petition claimed that, “Greer has demonstrated time and time again her misogynistic views towards trans women, including continually misgendering trans women and denying the existence of transphobia altogether.”

In other words, Greer had the audacity to say that “trans women” – meaning, biological males who identify as females – are not really women.

Greer was able to deliver her lecture, despite the protests, but she pulled no punches in criticizing the opposition she faced: “It strikes me,” she said, “as a bit of a put-up job really because I am not even going to talk about the issue that they are on about. What they are saying is that because I don’t think surgery will turn a man into a woman I should not be allowed to speak anywhere.”

6) As a former op-ed writer for the New York Times, Bari Weiss is anything but conservative. Rather, as described by the very liberal (and irreverent) Bill Maher, she is “a hip, millennial, Jewish bisexual girl living in San Francisco.”

Yet she found the atmosphere at the Times to be so intolerant of dissenting views that she ultimately left, penning a scathing letter on her way out the door. She wrote that, “My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist.” That is how some of her New York Times co-workers spoke about this liberal, bisexual Jew.

For good reason, Weiss referred to this kind of treatment as “social murder.” (For much more on this, see here.)

7) In March of 2017, Rebecca Tuvel, an assistant professor of philosophy at Rhodes College in Memphis, published an article in Hypatia, a feminist philosophy journal, titled, “In Defense of Transracialism.” (This would refer to people like Rachel Dolezal, a white woman who identified as black.)

Tuvel’s argument, as summarized by Jesse Singal in The Intelligencer was: “(1) We accept the following premises about trans people and the rights and dignity to which they are entitled; (2) we also accept the following premises about identities and identity change in general; (3) therefore, the common arguments against transracialism fail, and we should accept that there’s little apparent logically coherent reason to deny the possibility of genuine transracialism.”

For daring to compare “transracialism” with transgenderism (in reality, an equally imagined category), she was subject to a flood of criticism (Singal calls it a “massive internet witch-hunt”), despite the fact that “Tuvel herself is firmly in support of trans people and trans rights” and she was simply comparing the philosophical arguments behind both trans ideologies.

Hypatia, for its part, apologized for publishing the article, refusing to stand with Tuvel, “despite the fact that it was approved through its normal editorial process, and Tuvel’s peers are busily wrecking her reputation by sharing all sorts of false claims about the article that don’t bear the scrutiny of even a single close read.”

Who will get devoured next?

The silver lining in all this is that, over time, the radical Left will cancel itself. Just give it enough time.
