On Thursday, Trump escalated a battle with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, posting a Fox Business Network clip where Pelosi allegedly "stammers though [a] news conference."
The clip showcased Pelosi stuttering and jumbling her words in a 35-second mashup of a lengthy news conference. Fox Business political analyst Ed Rollins, appearing on FBN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight," noted the leading Democrat's age (79 years old) and said she's been "uncharacteristically" "inarticulate" as of late, suggesting she "step in the back."
"She shouldn't be the point-person leading the Democrats," he bluntly added.
As highlighted by The New York Times on Thursday, the battle between Trump and Pelosi has been brewing over the past week or so. “The president, who has largely avoided direct personal attacks on the speaker, finally gave her a derogatory nickname — calling her ‘Crazy Nancy,’ after Ms. Pelosi had suggested Mr. Trump’s behavior was so erratic it required an ‘intervention’ from his family and staff,” the Times noted.
“She’s a mess. She’s lost it,” Trump said of the House Speaker. The president also called himself an “extremely stable genius.”
“When the ‘extremely stable genius’ starts acting more presidential, I’ll be happy to work with him on infrastructure, trade and other issues,” Pelosi shot back via Twitter.
The two were supposed to discuss infrastructure on Wednesday, but the meeting did not go as planned. As reported by RealClearPolitics, Trump expressed anger over the meeting, telling the press that Pelosi was accusing him of a cover-up.
“For some reason, maybe it was lack of confidence on his part, that he really couldn't match the greatness of the challenge that we have, wasn't really respectful of the reason — of the Congress and the White House working together,” Pelosi said of Trump after the debacle of a meeting. “He just took a pass. And it just makes me wonder why he did that.”
“In any event, I pray for the president of the United States. And I pray for the United States of America,” the Democrat added.
Speaking directly to reporters, Pelosi said Trump had “another temper tantrum” during the meeting.
“Again, I pray for the president of the United States. I wish that his family or his administration or his staff would have an intervention for the good of the country,” she said.
Trump’s eldest son took a swipe at the House Speaker on Thursday morning over the remark. “Well, listen, I don’t think the party of infanticide is exactly praying for anyone,” Donald Trump Jr. said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “That’s not what they do. We get that.”
