Sen. Mazi Hirono’s (D-HI) re-election campaign has apologized for a fundraising email sent Thursday morning based on the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing over sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

"A fundraising message was sent this morning in error," a follow-up email from the campaign said. "We apologize sincerely for the error. All contributions that were made on this page will be donated to organizations helping survivors of sexual assault."

The original email asked “for a donation of $3 or more” to help Democrats in November, claiming the senator was too busy participating in the hearings to fundraise herself.

"I am spending every minute of my day fighting the Republicans who are desperate to rush Brett Kavanaugh's nomination and deny a fair investigation into the credible sexual misconduct allegations against him," Hirono wrote in the original email. "This has to be my focus."

Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) also sent fundraising emails, but have so far not apologized.
